roll cage please
I am at a decision point. Sell my 110 Adventure or increase its safety features. Using it in the mountains, etc, I am concerned about rolling. So I am looking at safety cages. Does anyone have experience with the Safety Devices L172? The 8pts full cage.

I am new at this... Does it really fix to the chassis providing enough structural strength to the cabin? Or is the protection area only the 'cage volume'? Other advice or options most welcome. Many thanks.

That cage bolts to the chassis in 3 points. The front, middle and rear, thats also a very comprehensive cage being internal and external. Very solid indeed, if you are not confident in doing it yourself you'll have to get some one to fit it which is usually the cost of the cage +20% (based on previous quotes I have gotten)

A proper cage will provide a lot of protection if fixed to the chassis.
This is a picture of a rolled 90 with an internal/external frame over the front only.
The frame also links under the chassis to create a complete loop of strength
Note how both wings and the roof are damaged so it must have rolled but cabin space is intact

This is the cage I have now fitted to mine - SD L138/7

I have a Safety Devices cage in mine - external at the front, internal at the rear. It bolts to the cross members and is very strong, and means I'm happier in the wilds with family on board. But it was in the vehicle from new - I've not put one in. If you're keeping your land rover, then it's a good investment. But they don't come up second hand often as people either keep them in, or can't be bothered to fit them - so little supply or demand.

I like that, can you use a raised air intake with one of these?

It mentions "Will fit bulkhead models, although bulkhead will need to be trimmed." what needs trimming? 1993 200 Tdi 90 CSW

Have you got any photos if the inside by any chance?
I've read the fitting instructions but they are a bit light on photos.
Does it replace the standard bulkhead removal bar or fitted as well?
Where do the rear supports run? The fitting instructions mention they aren't connected to the hoop?

I got that cage on my 110 2010 and it comes with an internal hoop, right behind your seats. The bulkhead comments are only for 90's and I even got the LR OE cargo barrier fitted. You can do it by yourself but count 2 to 4 days unless you want to rushed. I also added Dynamat at the same time as the interior has to come out. m

I will take some photos of the inside

The bulkhead is replaced with a new bar that is part of the cage - also has a bar under the chassis to further strengthen the structure
I did not install the rear supports - I think they were to give a fixing for rear seat belts but I have no rear seats

Thank you for the replies, very helpful.
I am OK with the external cage look so it looks as if I’ll go with SD’s L172. Trek Overland were helpful when I called them. However, ideally they want the car for two weeks. Timing and logistics are the next challenge. Thanks again.
