Each to his own, but what I did when our Puma arrived was the following. I painted the chassis, outriggers, rear cross member etc with some heavy duty black metal paint. I injected Waxoil into the chassis using the side holes and bottom holes of the chassis. I taped over the side holes on the chassis with Duck Tape then added some more coats of paint. The best thing about a painted chassis is that you can keep on eye on it and touch up if necessary. It is a joy to see it shedding water in wet weather. Takes a bit of time but it is well worth it. Incidentally the Tdi which is 1992 vintage never had the bulkhead injected and is still immaculate. I put it down to the carwax I put on it over the years. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

That is appalling as well, this guy needs sorting out. I wouldn't pay to have my car vandalised. You can see pictures of parts of the chassis he's missed altogether whilst blanket coating everything else, inside of the wheels, body work etc whilst breaking off the owners wing mirror and flattening his battery. This is the very reason I like to do as much on my car as you can - who knows what goes on when your not there!

Don't they say not to polish new paint work for 6 months, wiping it with white spirits has not got to be good. I'd be blimmen furious - thanks for the heads up to others and thankfully this thread brought up the updated info from 18stone.

Rustmaster (several positive with a few negatives regarding overspray) £517 (including 12% Defender2 discount)

I have a very old friend (ex army) who has just retired from the police and he bought himself a 110. I told him under sealing it was well worth the effort and cost. He asked me who I would recommend to do it as he did not fancy do it even as I would help as I have the kit. Anyway because so many of you had done it on here I gave the contact details of this company. The day after he rang me to say he had done a really good job BUT the overspray was horrendous, in the end it took him three full days before he got it all off. Teh alloy wheels were covered in it which I found strnge as when ever I do mine I always remove all the wheels first, the roof was covered too. He was not happy at all and he did complain. The guy was very apologetic and said it must have been the young lad who works for him and that he had done another land rover next to his without moving his first. He said he was out picking up supplies when this happened. This was two weeks ago.

Shocked Its so expensive, I paid 65 quid for rust proofing my 110 from our sole LR dealer, those guys spent one full day spraying my 110 and what a fantastic job they did. They covered the 110 body, alloys, mudguards and all the bolts under the car so they would remain silver Laughing Only thing they didn't spray was the front and rear diffs. I was well happy and its covered under a 5 year warranty. Money well spent. '08 LR Defender 110

I heard its like a 100 quid an hour, right? Labour per hour here is 300 AED (local currency) thats approximately £55. I still always ask for a discount when paying the bill, always get 10% or 20% off the total bill. Whistle No wonder they don't offer a warranty extension on defenders Laughing '08 LR Defender 110

I brought two vehicles to Michael, the wife's car and my Defender.

The wheels were removed on her car, and they used more cavity wax. The overspray wasn't bad at all.

When he did my Defender the wheels weren't removed, and I had a similar overspray as in the pics posted.

It took me about an hour to clean off most of it. I still have a wee bit on the side runners.

Compared to the wife's car - it appears that much less cavity wax was used. To be honest, there are some areas where I can't see it at all - I assume that he used a much finer spray (!?!) to avoid runoff/dripping?

I stayed there while he did the car, so I know he was in there for close to an hour doing the cavity wax part.

The other difference is that Michael was on his own when he did the Defender - previously his assistant had helped out with the jobs.

Bit of care needed here. I'm pretty sure the above link is not Rustmaster but another often advertised rust proofer who has a reputation for being aggressive.

oh well thats conclusive then, buy a package from Dinitrol and do it yourself Whistle

I was thinking overnight what a great business to start, I don't suppose many do it down south but I'm not sure - I would love to do it and properly. I have done all my vehicles for the past ten years it really is satisfying work - that's got me thinking Very Happy

Need a garage, hot jet wash facilities, drier, rust treating kit for older cars then waxoyl or dinitrol kit for rust prevention mmmm

Wonder how much they charge & initially wondering how they do it in a day must be a squeeze washing all the road filth off first and worse, then drying it in time to treat it - further research Wink

I've always done my own, that way there's only me to blame Laughing

But you raise a good point about commercial concerns cleaning & drying within a day. Steve.

I have always done my own and tend to do it every 3 to 4 years. It’s not the best job to do but a least it’s cheap.

Did mine back in 09. Some photos here. I was in a hurry but should say if you are going to do it drive the vehicle onto some sheets of polythene to catch the drip and I put a large dust sheet over the vehicle to cut down on overspray.

I’m going to treat myself to a new more expensive gun soon as the 90 needs doing.

Yup good job Thumbs Up

I think I did something similar back in the LRE days and later did one on LR4x4 http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=195 Steve.
