Each to his own, but what I did when our Puma arrived was the following. I painted the chassis, outriggers, rear cross member etc with some heavy duty black metal paint. I injected Waxoil into the chassis using the side holes and bottom holes of the chassis. I taped over the side holes on the chassis with Duck Tape then added some more coats of paint. The best thing about a painted chassis is that you can keep on eye on it and touch up if necessary. It is a joy to see it shedding water in wet weather. Takes a bit of time but it is well worth it. Incidentally the Tdi which is 1992 vintage never had the bulkhead injected and is still immaculate. I put it down to the carwax I put on it over the years. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

I heard its like a 100 quid an hour, right? Labour per hour here is 300 AED (local currency) thats approximately £55. I still always ask for a discount when paying the bill, always get 10% or 20% off the total bill. ![]() ![]() '08 Mini Cooper S - Sidewalk '86 MB 500 SL '79 MB 450SEL 6.9 |

I brought two vehicles to Michael, the wife's car and my Defender.
The wheels were removed on her car, and they used more cavity wax. The overspray wasn't bad at all. When he did my Defender the wheels weren't removed, and I had a similar overspray as in the pics posted. It took me about an hour to clean off most of it. I still have a wee bit on the side runners. Compared to the wife's car - it appears that much less cavity wax was used. To be honest, there are some areas where I can't see it at all - I assume that he used a much finer spray (!?!) to avoid runoff/dripping? I stayed there while he did the car, so I know he was in there for close to an hour doing the cavity wax part. The other difference is that Michael was on his own when he did the Defender - previously his assistant had helped out with the jobs. |

Bit of care needed here. I'm pretty sure the above link is not Rustmaster but another often advertised rust proofer who has a reputation for being aggressive. |

oh well thats conclusive then, buy a package from Dinitrol and do it yourself
![]() I was thinking overnight what a great business to start, I don't suppose many do it down south but I'm not sure - I would love to do it and properly. I have done all my vehicles for the past ten years it really is satisfying work - that's got me thinking ![]() Need a garage, hot jet wash facilities, drier, rust treating kit for older cars then waxoyl or dinitrol kit for rust prevention mmmm Wonder how much they charge & initially wondering how they do it in a day must be a squeeze washing all the road filth off first and worse, then drying it in time to treat it - further research ![]() |

I've always done my own, that way there's only me to blame ![]() But you raise a good point about commercial concerns cleaning & drying within a day. Steve. I have always done my own and tend to do it every 3 to 4 years. It’s not the best job to do but a least it’s cheap.
Did mine back in 09. Some photos here. I was in a hurry but should say if you are going to do it drive the vehicle onto some sheets of polythene to catch the drip and I put a large dust sheet over the vehicle to cut down on overspray. I’m going to treat myself to a new more expensive gun soon as the 90 needs doing. http://www.landroveraddict.com/smf/index.php?topic=377595.0 |
