Not 100% sure at the moment, but there's a few posts nearer the top of this thread which say that the folk there are pretty helpful.

Failing that, I'll get the difflock version. I think they are the same anyway. Donald

Just to confirm that

Is the place to buy these. Just off the phone to them and they could not be more helpful. The Td5 doesn’t use the standard M16X1.5 but a slightly different version.

They are also over £10 cheaper than Difflock, who the supply with them.

We decided to go with the Stahlbus version.

It’s a very nicely made piece of German engineering.

Thanks Chaps...something else I didn't know I needed... Thud

So at around £50 compared to a standard Defender Drain Plug at £4.12 (Inc VAT)



Which is to be be replaced at each Drain, so to break even this required 12 Service Intervals
or 145K Miles at 12K Servicing or 73K Miles at 6K Servicing.

The No Spill / Ease of Servicing argument wins out I guess...I feel an order is imminent Shocked SKIP

It cost £33.60

So in your maths in 8 Services it has paid for its self

I service every 5thou miles so will soon pay for its self, it also then drops the oil straight into the old oil containers. Clean hands, no spilling and no oil tray to clean. Also far safer/nicer for the thread on the sump.

Our man maths was even easier to work our than that!

Because of the hard work of Defender does at our off road school, we actually change our oil and filters every month.

So it was really easy to justify for us for the ease of the change.

Would it make sense to have these on the gearbox, t-case, and the diffs too? I'm thinking the slim profile ones, even for the one on the sump.

IF it does make sense, will these plugs clear the holes in any diff guards or gearbox guards?

Given the frequency of oil change, I think it doesn't make sense for anything other than the engine oil.

Also, a number of those have plugs which are flush to the body. The Femco ones would stick out and could get easily damaged, especially in the diffs.

Also I like magnetic drain plugs in my diffs and boxes.

Thanks for the input!

So just the engine sump it is.

For the record, they did mention something about magnetic versions or something equivalent. You'd have to contact them though.
