Frozen bits
Sigh - steep learning curve for me as winter sets in...

What's the best defence/solution for getting into my 110 when the handles and door rubbers (which were wet) are frozen solid. Missus nearly had kittens this morning (teachers can't be late Rolling Eyes )

Cheers

Some people put silicon spray on the seals.

WD40 worked for me.
Spray on a rag and rub it all over the seals.
Stopped working after about 2/3 weeks so did it again. Defender 90 XS TD5 (03 Reg)

WD40 will damage your seals in the long run so use silicone spray and lots of it. You can spray the locks and buttons too if you want, in fact you can spray silicone spray pretty much anywhere you like without damaging things. It's a good idea to carry a can with you in bad weather and give everything a quick spray if its really wet and then going to freeze. As a quick fix to get you in your can landy, warm water works but make sure you dry it all out after or you will have even bigger problems next time.

Pete.

I think I was lucky when in UK/ Germany/ Austria as I never did any 'Freeze prevention' and never had any problems (could always get into the fuel cap too!).

I always use a high quality shampoo and then treat the door rubbers to a wipe down with autoglym interior shampoo..... maybe that is what stops it sticking?

Guess I will go and buy some silicone spray (have to go buy some chilies anyway)
Now, about the window winders...

I made the mistake of using hot water to thaw out my old TD5 door lock as it just froze up again at work in the middle of nowhere and I couldn't get back in again...I can't remember how I thawed it out again....probably peed on it Laughing

Vaseline also reacts with rubber, better off with silicone spray.

A few years ago the parking brake froze up on my old TD5 90, made a hell of a bang when it freed up when I drove off.

Vaseline and rubber definitely don't mix.

People with wetsuit rub used to wonder why their suits were falling to bits - it was because they were using Vaseline. Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.

Sliconspray and put a rubber hammer somwhere so if it still freezes you can tab it loose. Twisted Evil Roel

Instead of silicon spray you could use a tube of MS4 grease, which applies like Vaseline but is a rubber lubricant (also used on LR 2286cc crank seals). Good for sunroof seals too in my experience.
