England 2002 Defender 110 Td5 Black LE Java Black
I am replacing the coolant today so it seemed a good time to flush out the intercooler. That is a pig of a job to get it out but it can be done with air con in place. The right hand hose on the intercooler is the problem. I chose to leave it on and take the radiator out with it as seen as my cooling system was empty. I also took off the two brackets on either side which have the bonnet stay and its clip attached. I am not sure whether this was necessary but it seemed to give more room. I took them off as I was originally planning on just taking the intercooler out and leaving the radiator in place and I thought it might give me som wriggle room to get at the intercooler hose clip.

Why do I start these jobs 3 days before we go on holiday in it??!!

Writing this should have given the petrol inside the intercooler time to clean everything. Ironically it looks really clean anyway! 2002 110 td5

I just fancied a change. It will be going back on soon but I might get it powder coated black first.

Nice black. I like the idea of the short rack to get around the problem of the roll hoop 2002 110 td5

I follow your build with dread. It’s like a timeline of what I’ve got to look forward to in the very near future! 2002 110 td5

The Alfa came to the rescue. Luckily the campsite we had booked had log pods so we transferred our booking, got towed home, transferred the gear and set off again. It’s amazing how much you can fit in a giulietta when you are desperate.
As for the defender, I’m hoping it’s selector issues. We were driving along on the motorway and it jumped out of 5th. I hadn’t noticed any running issues at all, even to the point I thought a very loud sports car was overtaking is as the engine revs climbed. It drives in a few forward gears but will not go into reverse. When I put the gearbox in neutral and lift the clutch it tries to drive backwards. I’m just hoping that one of the two adjuster nuts on the selector spring has broken loose and is not allowing gear selection.

The new clutch and gearbox were only fitted 30k ago

Fingers crossed 2002 110 td5

According to the Ashcroft website my symptoms would suggest the lay shaft extension has sheared. I reckon it’s time for another recon box.

I dropped it off at the garage today so I guess I will know soon enough. Anyone know anything about crowdfunding? Whistle Rolling with laughter 2002 110 td5

Is the box out of warranty? The mileage you’ve done on that box doesn’t sound a lot Big Cry Ray
