TD5 ECU advice requested
Morning All,

I have a 2003 TD5 with the problem that on every run it goes into a semi-limp mode, that is, a flat throttle but not a full-on limp and no error codes are shown or recorded.

Having done lots of the usual stuff, MAF, MAP etc to no effect, I'm left with the possibility that there's something wrong with the ECU. Not common I understand but there we are and I'm getting near the end of my tether with this thing.

The possibility exists of buying one, part number NNN000120.

Mine is marked NNW500930 4195.

As I read the searches here, any NN ECU is re-codeable/flashable and should be a replacement for mine but before I start spending money, can anyone tell me if this is true?

Many thanks....

When you say have you done the usual things does that include the injector harness (or checking for oil in the injector harness) - red plug on ecu, disconnect etc ?

Yes, it's been remapped but has a boost box fitted.

It had the problem both before and after the remap.

I know the ECU is at the end of the list as far as solving the problem is concerned but I've:

1. Changed the MAF (genuine)
2. Cleaned the MAP
3. Changed the injector harness + cleaned out repeatedly
4. Had 5 new injectors after previous ones were tested and condemned.
5. Wound the wastegate right off

So does anyone got any info on the compatibility of an NNN000120 ECU with my existing NNW500930 part number?

Thanks

Sorry I don't want to sound rude, but who remaps a vehicle that is not running right ??? And hands it back as a finished job ??? So you paid £500+ for a map that dose not work ?? Thud Banging Head Did the tuner not have any ideas ?? Or was he too busy counting your hard earned ??

Fuel pressure dropping off?
Blocked air intake reducing air flow or turbo hoses getting hot and collapsing or expanding too much and not keeping the pressure up?
Any odd noises? 1999 Defender TD5 110

Everyone seems to have mentioned the obvious things to check, but regarding the ECU's, yes, you'll need either an NNN500020 or NNN000120 for your defender.

Either can be reflashed to defender settings.

With thanks to Pete @ Bell autos, he's advised for a 10P engine (not sure what yours is... at 2003 it's probably a 15P) but for 10P the standard fuelling files are:

you can use, on an eu2 (10P) engine, NNN500020 or NNN000120

with NNN000120, use STHLE022 & STTLP009 (euro defender non A/C)

with NNN500020, use STHLE022 & STTLP010 (euro defender non A/C)

Looking on my nanocom map wizard, for later defenders

NNN000120 use svlne007 & svtnp005 (euro defender)

NNN500020 use svlne007 & svtnp006 (euro defender)

There's a couple of NNN000120's on ebay at the moment, i'm watching one as I need one for the project90. currently at about £130 with 4 days to go, so expect about £200 ish.

Fuel pressure checked and OK.

Air intake and turbo hoses checked and OK.

No odd noises. Sounds great actually.

If you think ECU, maybe one of the tuners might lend you one to test? 1999 Defender TD5 110

Fair question and just the sort of reply I might have made but I'd rather not say at this stage as he's not given up.

I'm just looking at worst case.

Yes mine's a 15P but from what I gather from your post, the NNN000120 would be OK for that .....?

if you have a gen MAF was it mapped to a gen one? although doesnt account for it being wrong prior.

so 60psi in the fuel line then?

can you not just borrow a ecu and see how it goes. injectors wont be matched but it will run. Cheers
