I'm sure there will be a front crankshaft oil seal leak along shortly to take care of that.

There's a trick Land Rover are missing, if they could design a gearbox component towards the rear of the vehicle with LR's history of leaking then even the X-member would get a constant rust preventative treatment every time it was driven Whistle

Sounds like a warranty-job. No doubt you'll have had a free oil change as well Thumbs Up Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

Hi all,
Yes, I have an issue of sump corrosion.
This week a did a appointment with the dealer to check the Defender as the warranty expires by mid of December 2018.
By surprise the oil sump has two severe rust spots which could be easy pushed in by a finger….!!
(See attached photos)

Its a Defender Heritage 110 which 67`000 km on the clock.

The reason for that issue is unknown.

I've had mine replaced for new this year, the new type.
My old one was fine but seal started to go.

I also had it Dinitrolled originally, I see on the Dinitrol pages / cans it says not to use it on sump pans etc as I would assume due to flammability if not fully gassed off.

What have others done with theirs? I see Waxoyl mentioned above which is similar.
Has anyone else used a rust proofing agent on theirs? Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

My new sump is Dinitrolled. (a new one because that was the only way to recover the broken off oil gauge tip)
The original sump was Dinitrolled too, and both cases the truck did not go up in flames as you seem to say could happen.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.
