Clutch lifespan
My Puma is a 2009 2.4 model with 37,000 on the clock. I am toying with the idea of a Morocco trip next year, and wonder if I should think about swapping the clutch before I go - I seem to remember a spate of stories about them failing early in their life a while ago. Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

One chap on FB lost his at 6000kms. Another at 140000kms. I’m on 47000kms and its rattles to hell and getting worse so i’m changing mine as soon as the roof on my garage is finished. Moral is you can never tell but now you’ve thought about it you’ve jinxed it too!

If it's original then I'd change it, and check the output adaptor shaft coupling at the same time. Clutches are better now than in the early days but '09 still wasn't great. My '07 was I think on clutch number 3 by 37k miles.

I'd wouldn't think about it. just do it.
no way from what I know would I risk it and as above check / change adapter shaft while in there.

Thumbs Up

Mine does............... Shocked

Mine's just under 38k on the original and has rattled for ages (release springs loose I guess).

It has a JLR extended warranty. Do you reckon that it would be put down to 'wear and tear'?

check this: https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic12243...lutch+poll

it was a poll on when clutches need replaced.

I'm on ~40k miles and still original...

Appears some people are lucky and clutch lasts for years and years, some others fail early...is it russian roulette, or is it down to the way they are used??? Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

Mine was fine until 40k miles. Now I’m on 41.5k and sounds like a steam train is in my gearbox!!

Well my motor was in for a service and MOT at the local Indie today - sadly they showed me a video detailing rust stains around the transfer case...... Big Cry Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

Mine's a 2011. Rattled terribly when I bought it at 13k miles so had a new clutch put in.

It's now done 67k miles and I'm still on that clutch and it's not rattling.

Rust stains most likely from the adaptor shaft...

Obviously fitted dry from the factory. Next to my new one with the correct grease applied.
