Sadly not, I stripped and rebuilt the front axle on both sides and swapped the diff for an ATB from Ashcroft's.
The 2 pin diff that came out was actually in very good condition so definitely wasn't ... |

The noise must be coming from the diff then, so may need to remove and check it  |

If you remove the stub axle the short end of the shaft/CV moves freely whereas the other end is held perfectly in the centre of the cup.
You'd think there was a bearing there but it could just be ... |
