I had to solve a very similar issue with a TD5 Defender for a friend of mine a year or so ago.
The ECU had been replaced, the injectors coded, and yet it would crank but never start.

| FWIW, mine is exactly the same, and it's on its original clutch (it's a MY09 2.4 with roughly 75 thou miles) |

l will get a pump, l had one for my Defender TD5 but it leaked everywhere and l chucked it away (the pump not the Defender, although that leaked everywhere as well)

The "clashing" noise when l don't get the gear change perfectly smooth, is it the clutch, the output shaft, or the gearbox that's making the noise?

The centrifugal oil filter on the TD5 sometimes makes a noise (spinning down) when switching the engine off.
Maybe that's what you hear? |
