Typically you can hear an impeding failure (rumble), unless maybe your car is really noisy. For the cost difference get Timken bearings.

The Ashcroft adaptor shaft is not stronger, it just allows some oil to leak into the otherwise dry splines. The oil is then contained by a cover. Infact Ashcroft used to just modify the original shaft ... |

The condenser fan on a Td5 is ECU controlled, however in classic simple AC systems it is driven from the Trinary pressure sensor, or even cruder wired in parallel with the Compressor clutch.
