New Starter Motor
OK, thinking ahead, may need a new starter motor and quickly.

Trying to avoid Britpart and AllMakes, but what sort of difference would there be between Bearmach and Bosch. There’s clearly quite a price difference, especially here in France. And forget the LR part, which is topping 500€.

But for 150€ between Bearmach and Bosch, is their that much difference. Always happy to pay the higher dollars for the best part, but keen to avoid many extra dollars if there is a good alternative.

Finally, does anyone know what the Bosch part number is (as opposed to LR) just in case a Ford supplier can offer me one cheaper than LR websites….

Not 100% sure about compatibility, but I believe that Citroen was using the same engine, and possibly same starter. Might be more common in France. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

I recently changed mine, (2011 2.4) went with the Bosch, was around £200 from Britcar and was listed as OEM at the time.
So far so good and has made a big difference to cold starting, turns over first turn of the key now.

Hello Grenadier

I did mine 5 years ago and went for the LR (Bosch) unit and managed to get discount on this
(maybe as I one of the usual suspects at the Parts Counter Shocked )

2.4 Puma Starter Motor OEM Land Rover (Bosch) Unit LR025840

My advice is go for a good one as when installed you will really not want to do this again anytime soon... easy to assemble on an engine outside a Defender but a stretch and semi-blind procedure under normal circumstances... doable but at times on the edge.

Thanks all. Fingers crossed it’s just a battery/terminal problem and not the starter motor. Monsieur Le Grenadier

€170 (about £146) for a Bosch starter motor from the local auto factors. I have to give them the old one when I get it out. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

I recently paid €175 for a Hella unit from Winparts.nl - no exchange required. So far so good. Swapping it out was do-able - but not something I’d like to repeat too often…

The studs for the electrical connections on the hella unit have a tapered lead to them (unlike the Bosch original) which made getting the nuts on again afterwards a bit easier - every little advantage helped!
