Energy Companies Going Bust
Our energy provider (AVRO) has gone bust today. Because everything was on line I’ve no record of what my credit balance was or previous payments made, all I can do is take photos of my meter today and hope somehow it can all be worked out.

My advice to you, especially if you are with a smaller firm, would be to download your latest bills while you still can and make record of your current account balance if you can. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Have they removed access to your online account?

Yes it’s gone, I assume that as soon as a firm goes bust the their web supplier withdraws service 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

From what I read...... it will be transferred across to a new provider and honoured unless you are a commercial user. Then you are a creditor

Thanks for the advice Bluest. Thumbs Up

I took your advice and tried to log into my energy supplier (Green Energy) only to find they've also gone belly up. Rolling Eyes

OFGEM advice is to sit tight. Off to take photos of my meters.

I just have trust that what gets transferred is correct. It’s times like this when switching to online billing seems unwise. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I was with Peoples Energy which ceased business on 14 September. Yet the cheeky whatsits tried to collect a Direct Debit for £128 two days later even though my account was well in credit. Luckily I stopped it but just shows one has to be very alert.

Which begs the question, should I cancel my direct debit? I think advice is to leave as is. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Ofgen wesite says cancel your Direct Debit if you wish. I would rather not increase my exposure to a failed business so cancelled.

Today they were advising not to, but I will leave that to your own judgement. I think I would. Unless the same DD can be transferred to the new company??

It seems that whatever happens, your energy bill is likely to rise.

I've cancelled my direct debit. As MartinF said, simply to reduce any financial risk.

Whilst I'm sure the original supplier will be required to pay back any account credit, I'd rather not have to wait. The last time I switched I ended up waiting around 3 months to be reimbursed the considerable credit.

Obviously the risk of cancellation is ending up with a large bill with the new supplier, so will be budgeting accordingly.

The original supplier doesnt pay back the credit. It is effectively transferred to the new supplier in this situation. Thats why the remaining companies are sometine reluctant to take on a failed supplier.

I’m sorry I’ve little sympathy for those bleating about their energy company going bust, a bit of simple due diligence would have told you that Avro etc are chancers who have trousered a shed loss of money and have not enough skill, capability or integrity to run a sweet shop let along an energy supplier. “Buyer beware” 130 Puma HCPU with an Artica 240LR Demountable Camper

Not me and I'm with Bulb. Why? As it renewable energy. Just like I fill up with Shell, pay more and they offset my fuel.

Its not all about costs Thumbs Up
