Anybody swapped out the binnacle clock for something else?
So my clock keeps losing time - not sure how this is possible as it has a constant live Im led to believe?
Any pointers on this one? As its got me stumped? Cars got a new battery also.

But Im also thinking Id rather have a tachometer/rev counter instead of the clock - has anyone purchased one of the 52mm tachometers and swapped it for the clock?

I understand on a 200/300 tdi it needs to be wired to the altenator?

Swapping the dials around is very easy - they're held in with clamps that are fixed from behind the panel. There's no reason why you couldn't fit a suitable rev counter in place of the clock.

There are some pictures and details of a dash that I stripped and rebuilt for my old 90 a couple of years ago here:

Thanks Smile

I've not fitted a new tacho since I owned a Stage 1 V8 more than 20 years ago but that is the general way to go about it. I suspect the most difficult part is just getting to the terminal on the alternator - other than that, it's just a case of running the wire to behind the dash. You can use the existing clock connections for power and lights. Darren

Yes you do have to wire it to the W terminal, if your alternator has one.

Searching around a few other forums looks easy enough - power/earth will be there already from the clock then wire onto the W nut of the Alternator - you dont have to wire inside the alternator do you? Just the nut outside so I presume it picks up the signal off the nut head??

Check you have a W terminal on your alternator before splashing out on a rev counter, not every alternator has one.
