On the plus side, whatever the book says the kerb weight of an MG is, you can take away a fair amount as they are self-lightening over time. Seems to correlate with the appearance of a crusty substance underneath.

Good luck with the (presumed) restoration of the 'B'.

Thank you!

I've had it for nearly 25 years - but never got around to it. A good few years ago it went off for a re-spray. Long story, but it still isn't red. It is however (apparently) well prepared and primed... We'll see. I think I'll be happy if it rolls and isn't a heap of rust.

Its journey there was on a hired trailer pulled by my D3. It was fine, but i didn't enjoy it. Although the 90 could, obviously, do the job - I discovered that transporter hire was only about £50 more than a trailer.

Will be good to be reunited though.

Surely the process of turning metal in to rust adds mass - the extra oxygen molecules must weigh something?!

Turned out to be a lot less crusty than I expected. Now just need to decide whether I've got the time... (And, frankly, ability.)

It took several more attempts to get the ratchet straps right. Anyway, got home safely.

True, but not when that mass is largely on the tarmac underneath the vehicle rather than attached to it!

That looks very straight and solid, though photos can of course be deceiving. I've certainly seen a lot rougher.
I find my motivation plays the biggest part in how much time I can find for one of these projects, capability only comes with experience anyway.

I'm always amazed when I see this type of setup.

I wonder how it drives?

It’s a pickup, so terribly I’d imagine.

I wonder why OEM’s don't incorporate this type of kit?

Maybe not quite 3.5 tonnes of muck, but there must be a fair load? Hard to estimate.
Total weight 6 tonnes?

That looks like a wagon from one of the contractors who carry out framework repairs on roads for local authorities. We have them like that round our way. I may be wrong.

As for the weighing devices, looks like a great idea but it adds money to the cost and unless it was legislation I doubt thee would be any appetite. There is no reason why they shouldn’t be fitted but like all things, it will be very low on the list until there is a major accident and people get killed. Lots of bulk carrier artic trailers have them fitted these days.

It didn’t need Columbo on the case to spot that did it? Also wants doing for insecure load, loose materials shouldn’t be higher than the sides and should be sheeted to give it at least some chance of staying in the vehicle if has to make an emergency manoeuvre. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

On board weighing starts at 2-3k so that means its cheaper to pay an overweight fine.

plus they know they are overweight normally on the car job 3.5t.

it doesn't help that there are no public weighbridges these days and a lot of private ones A wont weigh drive ins and B Charge a fortune if you do find one that will take you. none of the scrapyards or waste transfer staions around us will deal with the public, more so since lockdown.
