Blue Sea Fusebox
Ladies / Gents

I intend to fit a blue sea fuse box to cater for some other electrical items that I
want to fit to my 300tdi Defender and I am looking for advice as to where I should take
the live feed from. I had thought possibly of taking direct from the ignition
switch system but I am open to other suggestions for the feed.

What amp cable would you suggest for the feed to the fuse box itself and would it be advisable to fit relays for the electrical accessories that I am looking to fit. ( Kenlowe Fan / Electric Front Windows / Heated Front Screen )

As always any advice is greatly appreciated.

For the accessories that require an ignition live I have taken a feed from the cigarette lighter - mine is a Td5 but I’m pretty sure it’s the same on 300tdi’s

I have used a relay in the battery box so that I can draw the required current - the relay is switched on by the cigarette lighter feed and then the rest of the accessories are fed from the battery to the fuse box

As for the amp capability of the cable that depends totally on the current draw of the accessories, but always go for the safer option, much better to use higher rated cable than have a fire

If you intend to run items such as a heated screen which wants LOTS of power I would suggest your power comes direct from the battery or similar, but is then controlled by a relay switched with ignition. Not many ignition power sources are going to be big enough to power everything you are listing.

When I did my heated seats, I used a 70amp voltage sensing relay located in the battery box that kicks in only when the engine is running.
I intend on using this for other feeds such as mirrors and eventually heated front screen. 1999 Defender TD5 110

I’ll need to have a think about how to do this properly then.
I had thought about having an auto spark fit this but due to recent experiences with 2 local

Excuse the rubbish back of an envelope drawing, but you will ideally want something like this

Thanks very much for that, it may be on the back of an envelope but it actually makes it
much clearer for what I am hoping to achieve Thumbs Up
