Loss of power

Hi,

Non mechanical owner here seeking advice.

Drove car (2010 Puma) after a few weeks of being stood still. Approximately 30 miles into journey the car lost power and engine temperature gauge shoots up. I pull over and AA come out - no fault code, coolant OK, no obvious split in pipes.

Managed to drive home with no issues. Drove it a week later (no problem) then 4 days later same things happens - loss of power and temp gauge shoots up.

What might it be?

Temperature sensor maybe.
If ECU gets a signal that the engine is overheating (even though it is a wrong signal) it will cut the power to reduce possibility of damage.
I am unsure if a problem in the harness can cause this issue as well. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

My wife and daughters were out in the Puma a few years ago and it lost power and cut out. They noticed water underneath so they kept topping it up until they got home. If the temperature hits a certain level the vehicle is designed to stop to avoid engine damage. The problem turned out to be a damaged hose clip which let the hose slip downwards slightly and water escape. Once they were home I put on a new hose clip and refilled with coolant. There was no damage owing to the cut out system and it has been fine since. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
