rev counter stopped working
Looks like i have a touch of french electrics, The rev counter has decided to stop, i have checked the fuse and had a bit of a fiddle with where its tapped into in the ecu, and nothing. I have noticed a little bit of a flicker so it must be getting power.
Any ideas on what could have gone wrong? Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

will dodgy earths make the gauge be hit and miss? It was reading ok and then started to act up, also if i put the blower on it starts to act up too. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

If it helps our TD5 Rev counter stopped working, quite some time back, only got around to looking at it recently.

We assumed that the Rev counter had died,,we now know it was just the wire from the multiplug to the Rev counter that had fallen out.

Could be the same on yours?

But yes check the Earth too, just put your meter across the +ve and the ground with the ignition on to see if you have 12V.

These pics might help if it is the multiplug which was the problem on ours.

On my 90 there was no connection with the ecu for the rev counter, so I had to run a separate cable. So it doesn't have to be in that connector. Roel

I'd check power or ground to the rev counter. Does it drop to 0 rpm or below 0 rpm?

The reason I ask is that my rev counter sits below 0 until you switch on the ignition - it then rises to 0 until you start it.

If it's a dodgy earth or power feed then it will drop below 0. If its a dodgy ECU connection then it will only drop to 0 and not below Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

cheers i will have a look, but i think it could be a funny earth, When i have the lights on the selector for the window screen, and bottom heater ducts. the light goes out, and the comes back on again. Which i think is also connected with this rev counter problem. Not sure how the previous owner has the rev counter wired in. But i think i will have to look at the earths. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
