Hadn't thought of that! I wonder how that will impact reliability - not!

It will be interesting to see how 3rd party accessory suppliers get around the pedestrian safety rules for things like winches and bull bars if it has been so expensive / difficult for JLR to engineer them to comply. For other accessories it has always taken 12-18 months for aftermarket makers to be able to get around JLR’s OEM rules before they can sell their non-JLR branded (And exactly the same otherwise) accessories. JLR ties them up so that JLR gets a head start on accessories sales. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

Looking to take mine on a tour (circuit of OZ), so a combination of touring/overlanding in to some of the nether regions and
also some short 4x4 technical trips, looking at 12-18 months to complete i reckon. Like yourself i have added

RAI, Mud Flaps, Wheel Arch Protection, Tow Pack (you get TR2 and a few other things), e-diff, roof rails. I am likely to go
aftermarket for the roof rack.. https://www.frontrunneroutfitters.com/en/a...-roof-rack
Not sure about whether to order the ladder or not, just so my wife can reach the rack Laughing she is only 5 ft..

Fixed side steps, it looks like the mounting bars may afford some sill protection against rocks..so the stealer tells me,
but i am still researching

a few of us in OZ on the book of faces new defenders group are investigating what ARB is likely to release in terms of
front protection / winch bars. most likely a far cheaper option than the LR option, just may have to wait a while for them
to work it out..

Cheers

Jim

I saw an Australia specific "roo bar" mentioned in quite a few of the press articles around launch. Have you seen any further details on that?

First thing JLR may do is sell branded watch bands for only £ 5,000 or dog leashes with Swarovski - that's what I call accessories for the New Defender ... Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel.

I have not seen anything as yet, I assume ARB or Opposite Lock will be the first out of the gate to offer
a bull/roo winch bar in Oz, they are the leading after market manufacturers/suppliers here yet another pommie bar steward down under

31 - Bullbar
Land Rover has developed a ’roo bar specifically for Australia. To be made of steel, the bar will be offered as an accessory, keeping intact all sensors and safety systems. The ’roo bar will be revealed closer to the car’s June 2020 on-sale date.

Looks like it might utilize the subframe for mounting the winch to get around the the pedestrian protection rules by utilizing the the deformable cans developed for the winch............. so expect starting prices in the region of £3000....... Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

LR had a tacky bar in Oz for the D4, safe to say it did not do well, owners stuck with the proven after market

I hope the picture you posted J77 is NOT LR's effort at a 'Roo bar'!
We would call that a 'nudge bar' or 'shopping trolley (protection) bar'!!
Unfortunately the 'Roo (or Bull) bar' is designed to reduce damage to the vehicle (not the Roo) and prevent the animal from being thrown up over the bonnet and through the windscreen (many accounts of a still live and kicking Roo entering the cabin!), NOT what modern pedestrian safety features are trying to achieve.
That being said I haven't had a bull bar on any of my 3 Discoverys for the last 20 years and have only hit 1 Roo (he hit me actually and tore of the left front wheel trim and dented the passenger door with his tail).

I’m assuming that’s LRs own bar, there is a photo somewhere of it on an disguised prototype but I can’t seem to find it.
