It was always frowned upon to put rubber pads on the pedals because of the risk that your wellies would slip off them when wet, muddy, or covered in moo-poo. Somehow I can't imagine wellies being allowed in the new one, but perhaps that's what the exterior sandwich box or the dog-wash pump is for.

If memory serves last year in one of the LR mags either Britpart or Bearmach had a metal winch bumper for the Discovery 3.
My first thought was the fact that the oldest D3 came out in 2004! Will we see the same for the New Defender, as in will it have to pass both the first owner and the new approved owner and be completely out of warrantee before these accessory suppliers will be willing to invest time and money to developIng their own products. Will be interested to see the small print on the PCP contract in regards to modifying, but let’s face facts, most owners won’t, in the same way that most owners won’t take it off road as the contract is explicit in how they want the vehicle back. No one in their right mind ever keeps a new car for life anymore, depreciation and running costs mainly. Approved accessories fitted at the factory or the dealership will of cause be warranted, but at a financial cost. I remember when Guava Land Rover were outside Guildford. Someone took in a Twisted Defender for warrantee work because Twisted had told the owner that their work would not affect JLR’s warrantee. Nope, Guava told them to go back to Twisted. Will the current dealerships do the same? Time will tell. |

Just checked the LR site and it says three years. That to my mind is something they need to look at. Nearly everyone else is five years. I heard ads for FORD and KIA stating their cars have a seven year warranty. How easy it is to get them to enforce it is another matter. In the UK it states three years unlimited mileage. As I mentioned above, most owners only keep the new car for the life of the PCP contract. three or four years.
If the choice is to pay X to renew the warranty or get a another vehicle and start a new contract I'd bet that's what many do and so JLR are responding to that, as in why offer something that is of no benefit to the original owner...it also means that the following owners take their chances.... |

We still have our Pumas bought in 2008 and 2011 respectively and our 200 tdi bought in 1996. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Pity you could not hold on to your current Defender in the short term, just in case you do not like the new Defender. Kia warranty is very good...my brother had a very serious failure damn expensive (I forget what it was) but it occurred at 6yrs 11 months, they sorted it without any argument!!

LRs approved used warranty used to be 2 years, but has now been chopped to 1 year.

Just shows how little confidence JLR has in any of its products that they keep telling us are world beating that they won’t offer a 5 or 7 year warranty............. when I’ve asked about why dealers have said to me that it’s the same with all European manufacturers - my reply has always been that JLR should lead the way then - but the I suppose they would be out of business pdq after the 3rd year as they only build cars now to last as long as the warranty and PCP deals. Have you noticed also that LR’s financing rates are always a lot higher than many other makers............ it may well be market and regulation dependent Mark, for example in Australia the after market is a very large and serious business, with bull bars, winch bars, lift kits etc literally hitting the market within a short time of new models being released. I suspect ARB will be gritting their teeth until they can get hold of a Defender so they can start working out the engineering for accessories.. I have an Opposite Lock bar and winch set up for my Range Rover Sport, something you very rarely see outside Australia and in some instances the US.. yet another pommie bar steward down under MY20 110 P400 SE Defender MY10 3.0 RR Sport |
