Maybe little tap the starter motor with a soft face hammer then try again.

Mark your a genius! Gave it a tap and wobble and she starts! Cheers pal! Im guessing the solenoids just seize up a bit whilst the car is stationary for long periods?

I would guess you have a bad connection either with the main positive feed or the earth/s. Td5s had a habit of burning up starter solenoid contacts but it shouldn't be that if the solenoid has been changed. The other very simple thing is that the feed wire that activates the solenoid can get loose, it is just a spade terminal on most starters, and give intermittent starting issues. The fix is to take it off and squeeze it gently with a pair of pliers so it stays on tight and makes a good connection. ---

As already suggested, it might not be the battery itself. Could be a range of causes such as a bad alternator or defective/loose wiring thats causing the battery to discharge. It happened to an old car I had, replaced the battery but not long afterwards the same problems started again. In my case it was a faulty diode in the alternator.

I also recommend Tayna batteries, best prices around

Battery is all good got a new one anyway, still havung intermittent starter issues, i have the solenoid replacements just getting round to fitting them, all connections to the starter are sound so it must just be the solenoids, will update when fitted Thumbs Up

try removing the single wire to the starter solenoid and replace it. do this a few times to clean the connection.
I had this issue when stopped at local shop. Came back out and nothing except dimming dash lights as I tried to crank engine. waited 40mins for Green flag and he took 30 seconds to fix. very embarrassing. Give it a try. He told me that it was common thing that they got with Td5 Defenders. Thumbs Up

Do you mean the spade terminal connection? I did actually notice that it was a bit dirty and oil finds its way there too.
