I said that didn't I about them passing it, so that they don't have to deal with it been under warranty.
Dealers are just as bad if not worse than back street garages, Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

I've worked in a main dealership for another brand and I hated it tbh. Its typical cutthroat sales, the service side of things being the worst. Its totally upsell, upsell, upsell. Any mistakes and it's the other departments problem. From experience of a customer using the dealership I worked for, forget the manager, regional manager and whatever and go straight to JLR with your proposal of local media coverage of the dealers reckless disregard for customer safety and satisfaction, your drafted letters to the Landy mags and papers, your membership of the forums and your support from the members, 35 years loyalty to not only the brand but the mentioned dealership and the Daily Mirrors/Mails etc interest in your story ( what with the new Defender coming out) . Also your emails to the Ombudsman, VOSA etc. If you have a lawyer, it's well worth mentioning the fact that you've talked to them about a potential case against the dealership and they're VERY keen to take it on.

Premium brand, budget service for my local it seems. As you say, such a shame, you'd hope that when you spend a (high) 5 figure sum on a luxury vehicle that you'd receive decent service? 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Bit of a thread resurrection but I think some of you may be interested.

So after escalating the matter further and the dealership principle seeing that there was no discretion when it came to corrosion with 300mm of a structural component some "goodwill" was deployed. Rolling Eyes

County garage had the vehicle in and repaired the damage they did to the heat shield and also repaired the rust on the front subframe - FOC.

Great, at least we have come to some sort of resolution. So I thought.

One of my lockdown projects has been to protect the underside of the vehicle with corrosion blocker. So, onto the ramp it went and I began stripping the plastic shields from underside, ready for cleaning and protecting.

As a result of the following image, work was immediately halted and County Landrover (who were already fairly low in my estimation) have just reached gutter level.

Before looking at the following picture, bear in mind that their "repair" of the original hole ends where the newly visible corrosion begins AND they would have had to remove the undertrays to carry out the work.

I am absolutely shocked that they let this leave the workshop, knowing that it had just had 12 months MOT put on it Shocked

On the left you can see the clean silvery metal that they have welded in, right next to where the holes begin Evil or Very Mad

Is that componentry pictured structurally important? If so, not only is there a lack of honesty on their part but also there’s a potential for failure and a risk to life!

This is the kind of thing you might expect from a back street garage!

Whether you want to take it to Trading Standards is your call. I think I would, but then once I have the bit between my teeth, I get the old red mist. It will probably take quite a bit of time and effort on your behalf, but I would like to think that this kind of thing should be outed as it is quite plainly dangerous and a rip off.

I presume you have kept pictures as evidence? It’s been a while since the MOT.

Yes, we have kept the pictures and dates etc. The thing is, County garage are losing their LR franchise. That's a whole other story which I'm not going to go into here.

Therefore I feel like any efforts to make this right are now going to be wasted, although it may perhaps make us feel better. Our nearest LR dealership is now going to be Exeter or Taunton - both about an hour and a half away and obviously with the knowledge that the vehicle is in this state then we won't be driving it for repair.

There is another avenue that we are currently persuing - hopefully this one will be more fruitful than the last Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Grafty you might as well of repaired it your self, with that quality. Just half arsed repaired. This is why i don't bother with garages repairing things for me, unless i trust them.
My 300 TDi the garage that did the MOT work, damaged the seals to the point the system would just leak. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
