Signed up to INEOS on inception. So far no real info. Except engine choice and factory location.

They want the first vehicle to roll out of the factory in May Shocked that's some serious timescale. I really hope it works out. The design brief of the vehicle appeals to me far more than the new defender, plus it's bringing much needed employment/investment into my local area. Definitely got my full support.

I agree, just a shame no teaser shots. Otherwise, I may have waited before ordering the new Defender.

Plenty of time to cancel your deposit. Be interesting to know why you would think the two vehicles would be competition for your hard earned as they seem to be going for two very different markets?

This disappoints me a bit. The Grenadier doesn’t need to be a Defender clone to succeed. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Excellent news.

First I've read that JLR actually rejected his attempts to buy Defender production equipment.

JLR trying to save face after telling everyone that you can't build a boxy vehicle like the old Defender anymore because of legislation and then finds someone is going to do just that... Thumbs Up

Are they concerned that the Grenadier will be hailed as the vehicle JLR should have built?

To me you can't vacate that portion of the market voluntarily and then try and stop others from filling the gap.

Agreed.

It would be awful if they made an ersatz Defender. WARNING.

Would be interested to understand what the Defender and heritage shape trademarks are. And why Land Rover chose to omit them from the new Defender if they were so precious.

I guess it's the square back end, flat front, tapered roofline, bulkhead below windscreen with vents, round headlights, barreled sides, door tops, cappings, exposed rear crossmember, L594 lenses...

I agree, I am sure we all want GRENADIER to be a clone. It has to be unique to be successful.

I am sure we all want it to succeed, especially as it creates jobs in Wales to hopefully go in someway to replace Bridgend jobs.

I had to look that word up - good points on the scrabble board Thumbs Up

With the genuine passion that appears to be coming from the Ineos project, I would hope that a number of the failings of the old Defender will be addressed and at the same time we'll be getting a few enhancements, albeit they may be priced as optional extras.

Fingers crossed.

Jaguar Land Rover has lost an attempt to trademark the shape of its old Defender 4x4 after a long-running battle with tycoon Sir Jim Ratcliffe. ... However, last month, the Intellectual Property Office ruled that the Defender was not sufficiently distinctive from other 4x4s to justify the trademarks.

Ask any kid to draw a car and the boxy shape and wheels will always look Defenderish, no different from the original line drawing in the sand all those years ago.

Ironically many modern cars look the same because the same parameters are put into the computer and they pop out of the same jelly mould with a different grill and badge.

In my thinking, they can start off with the basic Defender platform but now they can modernize it like what Mercedes Benz with the G series and Jeep did with the Wrangler series.

The vehicle is still a Defender (or Grenadier in this case) but updated to work out the old kinks, modernize it a bit and make it more capable.

Thing I would most like is an engine that can genuinely pull a 3.5 Tonne trailer over the M62 without having to worry about pulling into lane 2 on one of the hills to overtake and then not have the power to get ahead.

An auto box with more than 5 speeds would be 2nd.
