And on top of above, we in the West are all making great efforts to reduce our energy use. Cars are more efficient than 10 years ago, we just made a big investment in a new geothermal heat exchanger for house and sanitary water, so no more gas or fuel at all. So activists, please go look elsewhere, for instance to regions in the world where the population growth has been and still is exploding. They all produce lots of mostly dirty emissions there. But that’s too difficult a subject for these activists I think.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

I don't find it problematic for someone to own a diesel and support XR.

I do think the protesters have an issue with getting their message across. Whether that is because of media bias or poor communication I don't know. Perhaps a bit of both?

Apparently they are campaigning for:

Quote:
What are Extinction Rebellion’s demands?
The UK group has three core demands:

1) Tell the truth
The government must tell the truth about the scale of the ecological crisis by declaring a climate emergency, “working with other groups and institutions to communicate the urgent need for change”.

2) Net zero emissions by 2025
The UK must drastically cut its greenhouse gas emissions, hitting net zero by 2025.

3) Citizens’ assembly
The government must create a citizens’ assembly to hear evidence and devise policy to tackle the climate crisis. Citizens’ assemblies bring together ordinary people to investigate, discuss and make recommendations on how to respond, in this case, to the ecological emergency.

Now I am definitely in favour of a cleaner greener planet and I also believe the onus should be put on governments and big business not the little man. You would think I'd be aware of what XR stand for but i had to look the above up as I really didn't know.

Others will I'm sure disagree with their aims and methods or like myself suspect them unrealistic but quite honestly unless the protesters delay your journey to work I really can't see why they would offend or draw such hatred and bile.

That Putin really is an excellent role model and true voice of the people. He definitely has the whole world's best interests at heart.

I have a local coffee shop near where I work which I frequent regularly.
It is owned by a brother and sister who are trying to make their shop as environmentally possible, well as far as is practicable.
I was sitting in having my regular decaffeinated latte one Friday lunchtime when a lady walked in and introduced herself as a Journalist from the local paper the Eastern Daily Press.
She was running an article on businesses doing their bit to reduce plastics and other 'un-recyclables'. Obviously coffee shops have had a bad press and the take out cups in particular. The brother explained to the lady how they were changing to using biodegradable cups (at an extra cost to their selves) at some point in the future and also how they now get their coffee beans in bulk in a reusable box rather than in the usual plastic bags which had to be thrown out and were un recyclable. (the coffee isn't grown locally Laughing but is roasted about 400 yard up the road)
Now all was going well until she asked his name and his age. She then asked the other lady who was working the afternoon shift her name and age. A photograph was taken (I was invited to participate in this, but I always tick the box which states no publicity). After the interview I asked her whether she would answer me a question. "Why do you always ask peoples ages and what difference does it make to the story?" I was always taught not to ask peoples age as this was immensely rude. Every story they write always goes the same way "Jane Smith, 23 said......" I said I found it rude and un-necersary. She couldn't answer my question but said that was how they were taught to do it.
The wife of one of the Guys I worked with got her story in the Mirror a couple of weeks ago and when I read the story, at no point was her age mentioned. So Daily Mirror journalists are taught differently??
As the lady went to leave, she was invited to have a 'free' coffee on the house. She was asked whether she would be sitting in or taking away? "Oh takeaway please" she replied. More land-fill. Oh, the irony! You will be pleased to know none of us even cracked a smile until the lady was well out of the door Rolling with laughter

England
So the Rebels chain themselves to a trailer in London.

Meanwhile, Stansted Airport announces yet another new airline customer opening a new route, this time from Stansted to India.

Seems business isn't listening.........

Great shame that XR's manifesto doesn't urge Government to scrap "child benefit" and replace it with "sterilisation benefit".

Human population control seems to be the elephant in the room that no "ecologist" wants to mention.

Don’t forget they’ll need a “safe place” too. Twisted Evil

I think age is pretty immaterial really in the grand scheme of things.
It’s more about interfering in others lives and telling others what to do, but not what I do attitude.
Collectively they also forget their own impact and their desire to live a fully urbanite lifestyle and multiple worldwide holidays per year. Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

I'd be amused if you frequented it infrequently...!

Years back I used to produce a joke newsletter where I worked. One issue I featured a fitter who had had a good curry the night before and had blown everyone out of the workshop office the following morning (you can imagine how....)

I said 'Mick X, 37, went into the office and fart...'. The chap in question collared me later and said 'You cheeky blighter, I'm only 31'. He didn't care that I'd ridiculed his bowels, only that I'd got his age wrong!

Rolling with laughter

We have a Guy at work who is just turned 30. A new Graduate started and thought he was 47? Neither of them have ever lived that one down.

One of the most awkward times was at a friends birthday bash. By the time we turned up, this Guys niece was bladdered. She walked up to me and asked me in a slurred drunk voice "How old do you think I am. I've got a fit body, haven't I?". Well actually, she hadn't and I think perhaps this may have been due to the fact that this appearance of drunkenness wasn't a one off. What ever I said was going to be wrong, wasn't it? I think she was about 50, but it was hard to tell.

I can't actually remember how that finished....... I didn't end up getting punched or slapped so that was a bit of a result I suppose?

On another note can’t say I agree with America shielding the wife of a diplomat for manslaughter and dangerous driving.

It’s a betrayal to laws.

I can understand diplomats being shielded but not their spouses. I'm on IG: https://www.instagram.com/osloblue42/

Maybe it's a sign.....
Just got home.

At the weekend, I stuffed my back in washing the Defender (pointless I know 'cos it's covered in crap again immediately).

And so, I wasn't too enamoured of having to stretch/bend/contort behind the drivers seat to reach the Disklok (which didn't do my back any favours) when i found myself chuntering 'why do i have to go through this PITA routine everytime just to stop some toerag nicking my bloody car off my own f##$$5g driveway?' LR wouldn't make them secure and the world's full of thieving gits.

Yes, why? I just realised why some folk sell them because of just this. I may soon have to be one of them.

If you're wondering why I didn't just step out and reach in through the rear passenger door to get the Disklok it's because the f%%>>g lock actuator's knacked again in that door.

Oh, the irony.

Edit - I suppose I'd best check that door's locked now thinking about it.

Couldn’t agree more with your sentiments.

Very sad as I am afraid we all get tarred with the same brush when something like this happens.
