You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

/\ that looks like new too - clearly in the genes Mr. Green

I was having a quick look at vid on internet and an ex XC champ on his bike was beaten by some lump on a 7min course by circa 30 sec. clearly they have some benefits.

it would also suggest these e bikes above are circa 20+ kg. my new bike at 10kg is heavier than I'd like. but everyone to their own. Thumbs Up

mr ericv - might be part of the service but that doesn't make environmental sense......but then I guess putting a motor on a bike doesn't do the planet any favours either......or are we going to start the beef burger argument ie if I were on an electric bike I'd produce less methane Rolling with laughter

if she's anything like one of the girls at my daughters school who thinks she a Greta - then I'd say she's a hypotric, not only does she live many miles from the school she also sees fit to get a lift to school by car - not public transport.
Thumbs Up

Caterham:

markb110.

any idea what the weight would be for your bike?

Hi Caterham, the Kenevo, size medium is 54 pounds or 24.5 kilograms. Its the heavier than the Levo's by 4 pounds (2018 model). 180mm suspension front and rear. Aluminium frame. Its the Expert model with the bigger battery and more powerful motor

I have taken the tyre size down from 2.8 to 2.6 inch which has helped a bit however it is not something you would want to lift over your head. Once on the bike and riding you don't notice the weight at all, the support levels can be adjusted to suit your riding style and fitness via the app.

Longest ride so far was 43 miles with 30% left on the battery, mostly exploring the nearby canals so most of the day in Eco. This afternoon I was on the North Downs, 20 miles with 40% left with a good spread of Eco / Trail / Turbo, some good climbing and descending.

Eric - am I missing something with these electric bikes? I assumed you could just wip a wheel and tyre off and fit a new tube or patch if you have a flat?

Hi Scotm

Yes, its a bike and so yes just change the inner tube or patch the original as you would normally.

Many of the branded mountain bike versions come supplied with tubless ready wheels and tyres. Take out the tube, insert a tubless valve add sealant and off you go.

I always carry a spare tube and repair kit because you never know. My record in my Norco Sight Carbon with Maxxis High Roller tyres was three punctures in the rear tyre. I did not even notice until i got home and was cleaning the bike.

So as with driving a Defender, be prepared and self sufficient.

You can, but don’t need to. Bicycle (any type, electric or not) roadside assistance and recovery now comes standard with our subscription to the Swiss TCS (your RAC). Including bikes is a brand new feature of our TCS membership, must admit the pictures I posted are several years old now, but then the same service was a cheap option you could tick when buying a new Flyer. It’s not only covering a flat, but all mechanical breakdowns of a bike, including bringing you back home in case the bike can not be repaired on the spot but has to be recovered. I guess in all three cases where I called them for a flat, the assistance they sent did not have a tire repair set available either, so it went on the recovery truck. Rolling with laughter

honestly, if i hadn't spent what i had on my current bike 'd have one too....

I work offshore for half the year so struggle to maintain some fitness.... once you've ridden one you wont want a normal bike again, i have lots of experience with the top level merida ~8k worth and its utterly amazing. big updates coming for them next year...

I hate ebikes. Old people keep passing me on the local hills making my efforts look bad Big Cry

Joking aside, there's been a real explosion of ebikes out here. All types. Mates who are proper MTB nuts, know their stuff, spend thousands a year on the sport, have ridden them and said they're amazing. Heavy, but apart from picking it up to load on the back of the car it doesn't matter as the motor does all the work.

However, it is very much a case of getting what you pay for. But as another poster said, by the previous year's model and see as much as 50% Off. If you do go down this route, bare in mind that ebikes are evolving faster than any segment of the bike industry so in just a year there can be a real leap in tech. So if you look at last year's stuff, make sure it is a model in first year of production, Not last, so you can be sure it's as up to date as today's bar the paint scheme.

And don't forget they do road bikes too. Here's my fave.

Oh, and to put into context the benefits of the motor, most churn out about 250w, which give or take is the same wattage a Tour de France pro 'averages' during a normal stage. That's quite a step up, albeit not quite the level of rider like Greipel who hit almost 2000w during the sprint. Shocked Monsieur Le Grenadier

thanks for the response markb110.

I'm just thinking about lifting 25kg over my head while going over a stile for example. or when we rode the coast to coast (off road) and had to carry our bikes up black sale pass. would rather stick with 10kg than 25kg Thumbs Up

horses for courses and all that tho.
