110 prop shaft.
Hi All

I have noticed a vibration when accelerating up the gears and more noticeable when going up hill, so my thinking is that one of the UJ's is on it's way out, this is based on when i grease the nipples on the propshaft that the grease does not come out all of the joints, it only comes out on one side, so my thinking is that as i can't take a chance that if i take the propshaft off, it's going to be an easy fix to change the UJ's, yes i know i'm dreaming Laughing

So i'm thinking of getting another propshaft to put on , then i have no worries about the time issue to put it back on sooner rather than later Thumbs Up

If i was to get a new one, i can keep that one on and then use mine as a spare when the UJ's go again, so do i by brand new, if so which is best for Millie Question

Buy a used one Neutral

Or Question

I am trying to do more stuff like this myself as i read very inspirational threads

Many thanks for looking Thumbs Up 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper.

Hardy Soicer seems to be pretty reliable, I think this maybe Genuine anyway.
I have GKN UJ's on mine, I believe the two companies may have now merged unless it's my imagination.

Don't forget you can run in 2WD with the diff locked if need be like I did last year, but not ideal if you have to travel far or with loads etc. Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

A new, aftermarket rear prop from the likes of Paddocks is about £115. Give that sort of price, I'd buy and fit one of them and then refurb your existing one at your leisure. Darren

UJs with a big G clamp, big enough vice or hydraulic press are easy enough to do. Ironically the last time I had to do it I was at the other end of the county to my 80 tonne press Sad so made do with big clamps Ed

You shouldn't need to balance them after doing UJs. It's the prop that is balanced and provided you don't cock up the phasing of the splines in the prop itself not much to go wrong. Ed

The LR weight assembly though has a lot to be desired, I was wondering if they could be thrown of balance out over time. Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

Not on mine. It's a plate welded plenty strongly enough to the prop... The rear I can't comment on since I gave my rear prop to Retroanaconda when I swapped it for a short nose pegged Ashlocker and got a Gwyn Lewis one because of the different length. Ed

I wonder what a place like Bailey Morris would charge for a prop shaft re balance? I presume they'd do that a place like that. Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️
