Got under it when I got home to grease the ujs and found this on the front of rear prop. A missing nipple

I was lucky the remnants unscrewed using a square punch and was replaced with a new one from the nipple stash!!!

All ujs greased and this replaced. Total time ten minutes. No excuses fellas get out there and keep em greasy.

Good outcome there in the end Thumbs Up

The big question is, how often should you grease your prop shafts, lets say, in a month or months Question 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper.

Because of the hot summer travelling in France I’ve done mine two or three times in as many months. I know the grease becomes thinner at higher temps and long periods travelling at motorway speeds I’m sure some gets out. Every time I do it there is a colour difference old to new and a few pumps needed before the old starts to ooze so some must have left. For the cost of a few squeezes of a grease gun I just keep everything greasy. It’s cheaper than replacing ujs.
While I’ve got the gloves on I do both vws front beams the lawnmower steering the hedge trimmer gearbox etc etc etc.
My dad was an old school toolmaker. Everything is oiled, greased, wd40dor dipped in wax to keep it sharp or lubticated
It’s just habit- I wash a car then spend ten mins spraying gt85 or lubing hinges and locks or any other moving parts.
When I worked on the beach we were expected to do them once a week. They still needed changing every 6 months due to salt and sand.

Yes i know what you mean about being old school, i worked/helped out a farmer when i was much younger and he was like that with all his tractors and machinery. Thanks for the info on the grease and when to re-grease them, i do, do mine when i can, but i will have to check them a bit more often as Millie is on the move most days Thumbs Up 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Window block pics

Drove 250 miles to Scotch Corner and back today.used half a tank at a steady 70mph Still got a buzz/rattle at 1550 revs under load. Just need a bit of time to dig into it instead of working all the time. Tough job, I have to go mountain biking in grizedale tomorrow. Hey ho.

Picked up a ram mount for my phone today but don’t like the phone on the screen mount so also bought a camera mount ball with a 1/4 thread. Removed the screen sucker mount and knocked up an adapter similar to the MUD Puma ram mount and all fitted and sorted.

To I got back to the truck after a half day finish to find somebody had reversed into it and pushed the number plate light in breaking the light and denting the panel.
Gutted
Rang a place one junction away on the m65 and went and picked up a new light. Pulled and hammered out the dent by hand and thumb (Sore now) and fitted the light. Wouldn’t know it had been damaged 😀

Changed engine oil and filters tonight. Last changed in June 18. 12000 miles ago. Now at 73000 Millers C1 gone back in with mahle filters.
Can’t get over how black the 7l coming out alway is.
Found a rattle I’ve been searching for for twelve months. A bracket that supports an intercooler hose under the air box is loose but I can’t tighten it without removing the air box. Any tips anybody.

Checked mpg at fill up today. 30.26 mpg
One run from Ormskirk to j36 m6 and back all other was a daily 25 mile each way commute and some single axle trailer towing. Filled at 432 miles and the light hadn’t yet come on. Speed had been about 65 on motorway both on the longer run and the commute although every day last week was a crawl in traffic for two junctions on the m65
I’m fairly happy with that as I have not consciously driven like a nun.

Also cleaned it...... a lot.
I need to get some bits powdercoated

Bumper
Side steps
Mirror arms
Wingtop chequer plate
Mudflap brackets
All are showing signs of corrosion or wear. Some following a prep and paint last summer.

Decided to have ago at painting with a gun for the first time. Bumper was looking tatty for about the third time. Need a new one really so thought I’d experiment on it. Good thrashing with a flap wheel took off the rust but left it a bit rough. Primed and then gloss black. (That what I was given so I’ll use it)
