Will remove side steps and mud flap brackets soon. I’ve been mad busy at work with an ofsted inspection (now done) and building work at home. I’ve neglected all my cars so it’s time to get back to it. I’ve got two bumpers to paint for the bay window VW van and two wings to paint and fit on the beetle. Securing tinker time is priority at the minute. Should be plenty available in the six week summer break😁

About two years ago a new head was fitted under warranty for no real reason and therefore injectors must have been removed. Anyhow recently I had started to get a funny sound when cold. Almost a popping and a bit of a tick. Last night I removed the engine cover and nipped up the injector clamps to the correct torque. They went round about 1/2 a turn to 6nm then another 180 to finish. What a difference no popping and the tick has gone too.

Side steps removed. Off side was a bit rattly. This was the result when I took end caps off a drilled the rivets out of the step plates

I had a puncture a couple of weeks ago and checked the front drive members and they showed enough play to need replacing before ordering I thought I’d check the back. They need doing too. They were quite dry and dusty inside.

Replaced all four drive members along with new gaskets and bolts. Drives like a different truck. The clunk has gone and the movement on the handbrake is now minimal. Very happy spannerer. All coming off again in a week or so as when I was in there i put a mic on all four discs and they are below the limits. New discs, pads and pins on their way.

Oh yes.
Took some kids from work to see this in Liverpool today

Then went to lrparts to pick up all the parts for my brakes. Don’t know what the kids found more impressive the QM2 or the rolling chassis in the lrparts showroom.

Box of dinitrol from Rejel arrived today. So with new brakes all round. Side steps to paint and refit and a full rust proofing job it’s going to be a busy week.

Busy week. Dinitrol applied, side steps welded filled painted and tops reinstalled with rivnuts. Three corners with new brakes. Last one this morning then mud flaps back on and finished. Just a good wash required. Il post some pics when completed.

Best laid plans and all that. One hub nut got jammed. Needed a new nut, stub axel, seals etc. Total cost about £20. But now I have new brakes all round and good for a good few thousand miles.
