again thanks for all the replys.decided to go ahead and make my on air intake from either side vent or wing top vent,im not bothering with the raised air intake or snorkel as I don't intend to go into water that deep!!!!! looking more at the performance side of things,will keep you updated on how I go about it

what are part 5 and 6 for?
Hi all,
I just had a look at the naktanenga optimised air intake for my RHD 2.4 puma, but couldn't figure out why some components are included in the kit.
As per the picture attached,
1. I'm sure component 2 and 3 go to the wingtop;
2. I guess component 7 goes to the air filter box inlet(is it a reducer that bridges the air filter box inlet and part 4 or 1);
3. either component 4 or component 1 connects the wintop to the air filter box.

So what's the purpose of components 5 and 6?

Thanks
Wei

I would guess that that picture applies to a LHD kit. 6 is the bodyside intake scoop and 5 is the adaptor that takes the fresh air into the heater/distributor box on the bulkhead. The shorter piece of convoluted tubing is what joins the two. Apart from the wingtop RAI, this looks like the kit installed on my LHD vehicle (see previous pictures). 1998 Tdi 90 SW,

So advice please - is this optimised kit a worthwhile performance addition to a 2.4tdci (no rai) over the standard (with the forum mod)? 2.4TDCI 90 - everyday brilliance

I tried messaging Ian about his intake adapter but get no replies, he gets to read them but no reply. I expressed my intention to purchase the adapter, still no reply.

If designing this from scratch, plus some help with the templates Pete Bell has supplied us, is 90 mm a good enough diameter to work with? Do I need to work around any pipe work or components when making the tube the hose will clamp on to? I have a left hand drive Defender so I'm sure there will be stuff in the way. The truck is in the shop right now so I can do the poking around myself. Any assistance you guys can give me will greatly help out.

The Naka kit that comes in via the top of the wing is also nice but if memory serves, the size of the pipe and tube is only 70 mm? I already have a Mantec installed and would like to use that as much as possible.

I made my own outof a quality piece of 4 inch flexible pipework. A wing top plate with a 4 inch hole in it (again DIY) then a 4 inch ā€œRAMā€ air intake with two of the sides trimmed to fit under a RH snow cowl.

I fitted the intake to my 2.4 which runs a mid-level tune, did the airbox mods and to me it is one of the best things I have done. Engine picks up much more quickly. Can absolutely recommend it. m

If it helps at all, but probably not, the HVAC guys we use at work are adamant you need smooth pipe work so the free flow of air isn't impeded šŸ‘šŸ» Rob

the 4" pipe I have used isn't smooth on the inside, but it is roughly twice the diameter of the turbo inlet pipe (which is a smooth upgraded silicone item) the air also has to pass through the air filter afterwards so any pre-filter smoothing will be well and truly disrupted in my eyes. 2011 Defender DCPU 2.2 - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic30623.html

Sorry for redirecting an old thread, but before I go for a tune Iā€™m looking to streamline the air intake.
Iā€™m not interested in a raised snorkel intake, just improve the standard setup. Has anyone brought anything out recently or is my best option still to mess on with the impeller and cut bits out of the standard box.

Surely there is a better option. Someone is missing a trick here.

If you don't want a snorkel then have a search for Nugget Stuff induction kit. Darren

Is that the beautiful one thatā€™s about Ā£700?
If so itā€™s above my pay grade. Too many other ā€˜shiny thingsā€™ to buy
I was kind of hoping to one would have produced a hose and fixing kit at least.
