Hi JSt.

the issue with the silicone i think is linked to the warranty repair I had done to the OS rear wheel. It was throwing oil out the back and all over the road wheels. The warranty repair sheet clearly shows all the parts used and was comprehensive. All new gaskets, hub seal , bearing seals, bolts etc.
All was well as far as leaks were concered after that. I only realised this when I removed the old half shaft and flange and discovered a hugle amount of sealer clearly packed in as the flange was re-fitted at the dealer.
I am wondering now if indeed any work was done other than filling the rear of the flange up with silicone sealer? Probably will never know now.
I did find some oil inside the hub area but I cleaned it out . I guess it was weeping along past the old half shaft and imagine that once the hub fills up to a certian point it will force its way out of the bearing seals.
I may have to re visit this myself. Have lost confidence now in the main dealer. Rolling Eyes 2015 90 XS Santorini Black

As there is some play in my drive flanges I am thinking about doing the same.

Puma ones are 24 spline but I'm not sure that ex-Disco ones are right for a 110. It's only in more recent years that the part numbers for both 90 and 110 have been the same. In the 1990's, they were different and the Disco half shafts were shared with the 90 of that era. Darren

That would leak down back of disc. Not sure on why they would fill a drive member with silicon.


was not thinking of the wheel bearing rear seal, more the one on the half shaft that would then allow oil into the splined joint and past the rubber cap on the end of the shaft, a load of silicone would stop that. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

Thanks LRA.

As per Siwynne, it looks like Britpart it is.

LR072976 & 7 if I have figured it out correctly from the previous posts.

Already ordered some M10 x 45 x 1.5 socket cap screws , spring washers & gaskets.

Oh, and a metric tap & die set as I only have UNF/UNC Sad I am sure the threads will need cleaning and I can guarantee at least one of the bolts will shear.

I'll be going down the spring washer route rather than threadlock. It was a well proven method across all the series vehicles and I never had a drive flange bolt come loose. This way, if the half shafts need removing in the future there will be no issues in getting the bolts out without drama.

During a late night spending spree last night I also went for the Britpart option. LR072976 and LR072977 plus gaskets 571752 which bizarrely come in a packet of 10 from the supplier. I ordered from LRDirect.

Very interesting method above re cap heads and spring washers. Thumbs Up That really appeals to my OCD. However, I’ve already ordered the standard BX110095M patchloc hex bolts so will “stick” to those.

When tightened correctly to 65Nm, there is no problem with loosening screws. There is no need for washers, adhesives or snap rings.
