Yes, the front OS shaft and CV are more likely to fail than the NS for the same reason, however they are inherently stronger than the rears and therefore the rear OS is the one most likely to fail.

The above presupposes of course that you don't drive in a particularly stupid way, because by doing so you can break anything at any time. If you subscribe to the spinning-the-wheels-will-get-me-unstuck school, which many apparently do, you will find that you can snap any halfshaft and destroy either CV joint very easily.

The OS was more worn on mine too on the rear, seems to often be the case regardless of 1piece or two.

Since I replaced mine with Ashcroft all around. (Except CV's etc.) mine has been transformed.

Thumbs Up

I also swapped mine for ashcroft on the weekend. I had already worn out the second (original) pair. Let's see if Ashcroft lasts longer. Now only minimal play in the drive. If not, it's not worth buying expensive quality.

Blackwolf - I agree, I treat mine with a lot of mechanical sympathy. Although the sympathy isn't always returned. Whistle Rolling with laughter

My 2.4 had the factory 2 piece set up, they lasted up until around 65k.
They were getting pretty much on their last legs though.

Although I didn't realise it much before I changed them due to it being a very very slow wear rate.
An amount of slop between gear changes and vehicle movement with the handbrake engaged are tell tale signs.
Also a drive engagement like clunk is also, especially at low speeds. Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

Related query.........
Does anyone know if it’s common practice to fit rear half shaft flanges and a load of silicone sealer on the inside?
I found just that when recently fitting the one piece shafts. It was the side where I had an oil leak and was repaired under warranty at a well known Sussex main dealer. . Is this really a dealer fix for such an issue?? Rolling Eyes 2015 90 XS Santorini Black

My indie uses sealant but would have thought a main dealer would use a new gasket?

I wouldn't worry about it.

Apologies if this has already been covered in another topic, but are they much of a job to swap? I keep seeing Discovery one piece rear ones for sale on eBay for very little (ie £25) and it's becoming quite tempting.

Pretty simple job Joe. Be sure to torque the bolts up properly as snapping one in hub is a PITA. A friend told me, honest. 🤥

Hi Scotm
Thanks. I was referring to sealant completely filled up on the inside of the flange and then fills the area where the shaft fits.
Seems like a bodge to me. The gasket on the flange was fine. 2015 90 XS Santorini Black

Although the winter has not been too bad yet, there’s been plenty of road salting around here since around October.

Is it just me or do those studs looks a little too short / nuts not on far enough?

This comes up regularly and whilst many don't like it, they come from the factory like that and so is clearly not a problem. Darren

Which ex disco half shafts would I need for the rear of a 110 Puma. There are loads on eBay and I would end up with the wrong ones.

That would leak down back of disc. Not sure on why they would fill a drive member with silicon. Cheers

As there is some play in my drive flanges I am thinking about doing the same.

Are the ones needed for a 2012 110 Puma 10 spine, 24 spline, or something else? Any info much appreciated so I don't end up buying the wrong ones!!!
