The top terminal/stud with the "W" next to it is for a rev counter.
The battery light is connected to the smaller wire on the bottom set of three spades (two of which are wrapped in white tape). The red spade with the (hopefully) BROWN with YELLOW wire is the battery warning light feed. Your wiring has definitely been mucked about with - the proper alternator plug is missing. The two white-wrapped spades and the warning light spade should be in a proper plug: https://polevolt.co.uk/acatalog/Lucas-Alte...tml#SID=53 ![]() ![]() |

Thanks guys, so the dangling wire is probably from when the alternator came from a different vehicle that had a revcounter.
Why is my battery light on permanently? If it wasn't on at all I would say a connection fault but with it on permanently I really am confused. Much obliged for all the advice. It's not had an LED bulb fitted in that position by any chance?

OK I just wonder if the alternator is not being excited correctly on the D+ (warning light) wire and so it's taking more revs to get it to kick in and start charging.
