Calling Apple iOS Wizards!
Having a major headache with a new iPad Mini 4. Can anyone help.

As is usual with a new product, it needs updating to the latest software 11.2.2. but the update fails every time with the message “Unable to verify update. You are no longer connected to the internet”. The device is connected to the net and I can browse the web fine.

It is displaying few other weird traits too. I can’t download any apps, it just repeatedly asks for the App Store password. I tried to do a factory reset, but the device freezes if I try to access the reset menu.

Things I have tried with no success:
Most of the things that Google suggests
Deleting and re-downloading the software update.
Hard reset.
Quitting all the running apps.
Re entering WiFi settings

Any suggestions? 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

If you go into SETTINGS/GENERAL/SOFTWARE UPDATE . it will immediately check the status and then give you a current status of your software version you are using (eg your software is up to date or some other message which may indicate why it is failing to update to 11.2.5) Defender 90XS SW

Have you switched on the toggle switch entitled iTunes & AppStore? See SETTINGS/GENERAL/TOUCH ID & PASSCODE. You will then have to enter your 4 or 6 digit passcode and then check that the toggle is switched on. Also check that you have turned on the passcode. Defender 90XS SW

Is this the only Apple device you have. If you have a MacBook or iMac, then the download is best done through iTunes . Plug the Mini in using the supplied connector using USB. The Mini should appear as a device in iTunes.
If this is your only Apple then I think you need to set up anApple ID and use that to access the app store. Downloads, even free ones cannot be accessed without an account or Apple ID.
You also should have free telephone support from Apple for the first 90 days.
Hope this is of some help.

It just says that an update is available (11.2.2) and do I want to download and install. If you choose to go ahead, the problem described above occurs. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Interesting, just tried this, the iPad freezes when I enter the passcode. I then have to double click the home button and quit settings to get out of it. Can't get far enough the see what the settings are. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Not good news. Tried the update through iTunes connected to my Mac. Got two thirds of the way through. iTunes then flagged error with the iPad and said the update couldn't complete.

iPad is now stuck like this...

The iPad 4 Retina has updates discontinued.
Are sure this is not the case? _\Hennessey|Venom| F5/___

I think, as Stephen suggested, as the iPad Mini is brand new, I would now ring Apple Support or if you are near an Apple store take it in to them. I've only had to use Apple telephone support twice and they were excellent both times. Good luck. Defender 90XS SW

Unplug and try a hard reset.

To perform a hard reset:

Hold down the home and on/off buttons at the same time
Continue holding the buttons even after the slider appears on the screen. The screen will eventually go black
When the Apple logo appears, let go of the buttons and let the iPad start up like normal.

If this works then try again through iTunes.

Apple's helpline is really good if you are still stuck.

Unfortunately, it’s provided by work, so I can’t just take it somewhere to be fixed. I’ll have give it back to the IT dude, which means I probably won’t see it for 6 months. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

You do not need any paperwork or invoices to go to an Apple Store, they know from the serial number if the device is entitled for support. You can even look that up online.
Apple’s support in the Apple Store / Genius Bar is very good! Cheers, Vincent
