I have gone for a vented setup, rather than just replacing what is there. We suspect that either the driver side or the passenger side is sticking. Not sure what the rears are going to be like either. As the nipples on those look very suspect. ![]() In the words of my Good Friend, Gary Forrest 1980 -2025 " we will work something out" |

OK we have been hard at it today, We really did put the power on did we not.
Here is the finished job from yesterday ![]() Click image to enlarge Also today the same story as yesterday, old setup ![]() Click image to enlarge My dad had right mare getting the disc off the hub, I had to keep the heat on while he hammered it. Once that was done we were away. all installed ![]() Click image to enlarge We did fit the circips too was one of the 1st jobs we on the passegner side this morning. So the front end is up to bed, with new bearing, and new discs, calipers and flexi hoses, and new uprated hubs just to be a fanny, ( even fitted with new bolts to) Anyway we moved on to the rear, the clock was against us now, as it was clocking on about 3 pm. So we whipped both wheels off, and had a look what the story was. ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge Once we had a look at the rears, we knew they were going to be a nightmare of anyone's money. The rear pass bleeder nipple is practically none existent! Getting what was left out to replace it would have been a ![]() So i have decided to bin those off and get two new rears. The rear pipes look a worse for where too. So those have been removed and will be replaced. What a ![]() conclusion, who ever has done work on this, has done it badly! These have not been off in a month of Sundays! The front driver side was spaced to two washers, with ![]() The rear discs well the speak for them selves this one is the rear driver side, ![]() Click image to enlarge the other is the rear passenger side, the front of it was well pitted! ![]() Click image to enlarge So Christ knows when it had a brake over hall last! ![]() Looking back at the brakes, i can see why it pulls to one side, due to the state of the discs all round. So my parts are ordered off now, along with new bolts for the calipers, like mash said to do so. So the defender is off the road this week sadly. The laugh is mk1collector, I did question the mot it had on before i put one on. The brake imbalance was thrown up on the mot as a failure before i bought it, a long with a few other things, that were not corrected. Which we ended up correcting, before it went in for the mot. I did ask the tester to have look at the brakes, weather he went as far as that i don't know, if remember it failed on rust. It went through again with out a bother too, So either the brakes have been on the pass limit i don't know, But who ever has had the vehicle before me hasn't either been too clued up or the garage that serviced it, hasn't bothered to service it properly. The setup all round looked like it hadn't been off in a fair while and i mean a while too!
The fronts were not as bad disc wise, but they are still pitted. So either the fronts have had more attention who knows. So, so far we have had to correct or replace. one Seat belt, Full suspension ( dampers and springs) Full brakes fuel neck and relevant piping and clips, due to some one doing a half arsed job! causing it to ![]() We have corrected the tappets too, which were out too. A inlet/exhaust gasket, which i suspect someone had been there before on how slack it was. Bodged repair on the EGR system, which i just binned off, along with the ECU thing. Its had some love though in a couple of areas, but not enough. Lucky though no really hard core dramas yet.
