I've recently replaced the rear door hinges on my 110. The safari door that carries the spare. I stumped up for the stainless hinges from YRM in the hope that I'll not have to replace them again anytime soon. Whilst they are expensive, the quality is absolutely faultless!
Whilst I don't like wasting money, its nice when you buy something that exceeds your expectations I know that might be a bit 'blingy' for some but if it's a choice between shiny or broken with rust streaks ill take stainless every time. I tried to justify the price by telling myself that the cost of standard hinges plus primer, paint and lacquer would soon add up! Ha Ha. I know - I'm deluded. Strikers |

One of the 5 non LR suppliers in your poll who position themselves as a quality parts supplier once answered an e-mail request about quality of their hinges as below. I took this from another forum.
hi xxxxxx, they are actually allmakes hinges but are of similar quality to brtipart as they all use the same type of hinges, they are very good for the money but if you want the best you need to buy genuine land rover ones but they do cost about 4-5 times the price kind regards If I ever have to replace my front hinges, I will take their advise and just use ACF-50 on the hinge pins from day 1 in the hope that this will prevent any rust from developing. (I have a very minor rust problem at the front door hinge pins now, but with regular use of ACF-50 it does not seem to get any worse) Eric You never actually own a Defender. I'm waiting for the Gore security hinges, which, if they live up to expectations, will be clear winners.

For me, price ignored, the only problem with the Gore stuff is the GORE writing. Not so bad on a fuel filter housing, but the writing on the bonnet hinges looks awful. I fear that the door hinges would be similar. Maybe they'd delete a few commands from the CNC file for me and make a set without the hideous branding?

Like blackwolf I shall be waiting to see what Gore has to offer, have been in contact with Dave at Gore and all he could say was that he cannot publish pictures of the hinges yet due to his waiting for the ok from his patent attorney, but he did write in his email
"None of the bolts will be accessible from the outside of the car once the hinge is fully fitted. The bolts supplied will be stainless steel cap heads" Paul. Cogito ergo sum |

You can choose if you want the Gore logo on the window or bonnet fittings ![]() Last edited by Paul55 on 5th Mar 2017 5:22pm. Edited 2 times in total |

I'm also waiting on the gore ones but the Croytec ones have a built in grease nipple so can be maintained better. Ray

I'm waiting on the Gore ones too, i've already got their (non logo'd black) bonnet hinges and they're superb. They also appear to be a lot more difficult to undo than all the other so called "security hinges".

I too decided to go the Optimill route, for bonnet, door and rear door hinges. The original (only five years young) LR door hinges, despite regular doses of grease and Ballistol occassionally produce rusty trail, and the play in the lower driverīs door hinge is considerable. Once I have freshly recoated door mirror arms prepared, I shall spend a pleasent afternoon fitting the full set. Very impressed with the quick turnaround and email contact at Optimill. The parts are beautifully packaged and presented. The technical design is quite clever. However they do not have grease nippels like the croytec oneīs.

At the other end of the market...
I bought a set for 4 doors from Foundry 4x4 which were galvanised. Still working fine and a good price. Just make sure you go for the later Td5 versions as the early ones are terrible.
