I'm really impressed with the optimill ones, great quality from the look of the pics, once the Gore ones have been given the ok too show pics etc I'll make a decision, it all depends on the security of the bolts as he did say in his email, none of the bolts will be accessible from the outside, so I'm intrigued to see how they work/ fit.

What I reckon is quite clever about the Optimill ones is that the pivot shaft is fixed (from inside with a grub screw) to the inner (shorter) part of the hinge (right side, where the Optimill graphic is) and the outer part (left side) pivots around that shaft.
This way (contrary to the original LR items) the pivot height is maximised. Additionally, the two aluminium parts are completely isolated from one another by the delrin bushes. When at some point wear occurs, it will only be a case of replacing those bushes. They have done their homework at Optimill! ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MTīs, Recaro CSīs, anorak, wellingtons |

Nicely engineered for sure, it's just a shame they look so ghastly.
Until someone can come up with a normal looking hinge that's superior I'll be sticking to Land Rover. |

I suspect there will just be studs on the door end, then some sort of bolt on the body end which the hinge then fits over with a grub screw or something in the door shut.
Sounds similar to how the gore bonnet hinges fit on. |

As I'm slightly with Retroanaconda on the Optimills, and not exactly keen on the blocky Croytec aesthetic I might get a cheap pair from a local indy to tide me over until I can see the Gore hinges. I quite like the YRM stainless units but as the truck is a Black LE (which has quite enough factory fitted silver billet bling on it already) it'd seem a shame to have to paint them black.
I've never had this problem with 101 hinges - they've been fine for 40 years so far ![]() |

My Series Ones all have better hinges than my Defender, and they're actually more secure since they can't be removed without opening the door!
Progress, Landrover style! Anyone retrofitted Series 2 hinges to a a Defender? They should fit and they'd be more durable and probably no less secure. ![]() |

I spent a while chewing the fat on whether to go for the Optimills or the Croytecīs offering. Having already sourced parts for the interior from Croytec, I was very pleased with the quality and service.
In my view however, the Optimill door hinges look so right once fitted to the vehicle, while appearing too complex on their own. The rear door ones look far better than the original LR ones, which have a quaint sort of "barn door" character to them. Purely personal opinion, though. Everyone to their own, I say ![]() I wouldnīt recommend fitting silver hinges to a dark coloured vehicle or black ones on a light coloured one. Again, just a personal opinion. 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MTīs, Recaro CSīs, anorak, wellingtons |

On the the other hand you can just slide the window open, and open the door. Won't even need to do that unless the door has the optional "Private locks". ![]() |

Well... That didn't work. I had a look at some brand new Ģ12-a-pair Britpart hinges and found that they've got more play than the 15 year old ones on the 110. Appalling quality which sadly justifies their reputation. The vendor was equally horrified and is returning them back to the distributor. At the moment a 20mm wide piece of 0.6mm aluminium eased into the lower hinge gap is working perfectly and should last until I get some better ones. |

One of my hinge pins snapped. Cheap and cheerful hinge from Bearmach delivered yesterday.
External finish isn't the greatest, but at Ģ7, I wasn't expecting it to be great. Looks better once painted, and I expect a bit of prep work before painting, they would look perfectly acceptable ![]() It'll do until the doors are replaced and painted, and a set of Gore/Optimill hinges purchased |

So they match the genuine ones really well then. ![]()
Problem with Britpart is the next 4 out of the box could be perfect, or they could be worse you never know. Ive had some Britpart stuff that's been great, but other stuff that's rubbish. |

Well my original 1995 300Tdi hinges are holding up just fine with no maintenance. By that basis buy old genuine. Ed
