2013 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 SW Zambezi Silver
One shot grease puma defender
Hi guys,
My rear brakes are both gone at 45k kms. could be due to the Traction control when offroading or something else . anyway I am planning to change the disc rotor and the brake pads.
also, I am going to inspect all four wheels's wheel bearings and regrease them (convent the puma spacer setup to tdi300 adjustable setup) . and since I will remove the front wheels, I am thinking might just fill up the swivel housing too.

So I bought 4 one-shot greases.

and now my question is, since I cant find it in the workshop manuals. how to properly fill the swivel housing with one shot grease?

like: 1, should I fill it to the rim of the filler hole?
2,does it matter if I overfill it?
3, what is the torque setting for the filler plug?

The grease can't go anywhere so when not leaking no real reason to fill them up. They don't have a drain hole either like the old swivels, so you will need to take the cv out in order to take out old grease.

When filling them up do not put more than 1.25 / 1.5 one shots in, overfilling will cause the seals to be pushed out, which results in diffoil entering swivels and vise versa. Its designed to splatter about instead of running submerged.

so basically its seal for life and only refill when overhauling the swivel ?

That is the general idea, but its def. worth checking every once in a while as expecting something to be just fine in a Land Rover might be risky. In mine after the first 130.000km the swivel grease just disappeared for some reason even though it did not leak out and didn't leak into the axle either.

No harm in filling up.

Remove road wheel and axle stand underneath for safety

Turn wheel outwards to full lock (otherwise you cannot put the grease in, the swivel ball blocks the filler hole on straight ahead steering.)

Undo plug and fill. 2016 D4 HSE

I filled my swivels last week thinking they won't take much but to my surprise both sides took the full 375ml sachet. I'm guessing that after 5 years, 60k kms most of it has leaked into the axle tube explaining why my front diff oil is blackish when I change it every year.
Theres the usual slight weep under the swivel ball seal but I presume that as long as there's lube where its supposed to be its ok. Each sachet was only £3 from Paddocks. Not sure about torque but the nut was a miniature version of those on the differential sumps so take care not to over tighten.
The sachet should come with a short length of plastic tube which you just push onto the sachet nozzle, then the other end as far into the swivel filler hole as you can before squeezing until it starts to come back out at you. Then its full Thumbs Up

I actually ended up using 3 sachets. (bought 4)


p.s. mine is My13 110. done 50k kms.

I have a 20L tub of BP NLGI 000 liquid grease, is it OK for swivel housings? 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Top tip if using the one shot sachets. Stick it in a bucket of hot/warm water before you use it. It will become less stiff and flow into the housing easier. 110 D250 SE HT
