Sealed mine up with rubber bungs and a bit of silicone.

If you are going to seal it up make sure that you fit some pipe onto the batteries breather hole and vent it through one of the bungs to fresh air (obviously up to a decent height if you are going to be wading) Tom

The holes below the battery it's self should be left IMO.
Imagine if there was a leak.. |

The OEM battery already has a breather pipe, well at least mine did
