My "new to me" 90 has a little bit of a sagging rear end, more particularly on the passenger side where it appears about ½" lower than the other side or the front. I would have expected the rear of an unladen 90 to appear a bit higher than the front
![]() All the springs appear to be in good condition with virtually no surface rust anywhere apart from a little bit where they fit onto the seats. I've checked the spring types against the colour codings and they're the correct ones all round, I've also checked the free length of the one in question which is correct at just under 15". Is it possible they can just go "soft" with age so they compress a bit more than they should for a given loading? |

In a nutshell - yes.
Sounds like the rears have lost stiffness .... or possibly the front have been replaced with springs in the past of dubious manufacture and/or spring rate?? Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

Thanks for that, it's what I thought really.
They look like they're probably all original, maybe the previous owner used to carry a lot of weight in the back. I guess I'll start by replacing the "soft" one and see where I go from there. Now the dilemma begins - OEM or aftermarket ?? I suppose if I go with aftermarket, I'd best replace both the rears together. |

That's why i said 'dubious manufacture' ... Recently replaced a front set for someone with Britpart springs [Standard 175lbs] ... And it looks like It's had a 2 inch lift! Definitely way too stiff ![]() Stick with Genuine or quality makers [Bearmach etc] Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |
