Unless you also have a 12S socket fitted as well as a 12N it is quite an involved job. Yes you can rewire a 12N easily enough into the terminals in a 13 pin socket. However there is no live feed for battery charging from a 12N socket, so you would need to wire one into the 13 pin you will also have to install a relay and have it switched from the live side of the ignition. If you do have a 12S fitted then the wire from terminal 2 is the ignition positive feed for battery charging.

I may have answered my own question , just been underneath the wagon and about 2 foot along the loom from the socket end is a grey plug connection. There seems more wires in the other sides connector than on the tow socket side. So hopefully it is plug and play.

Usually 12N sockets are wired with cable in a black sheath and 12S are wired with cable in a light grey sheath

If you have a grey socket connection which will be for a 12S socket then it looks like all you will have to do is feed the core cables from that connection block to the new 13 pin socket following the wiring diagrams given. If you have to join the cables with a new length of wire make sure you use good quality connectors and not those awful scotch block things. It may be possible to buy the socket feed with the right connector to connect to the connector you have that would make it so much easier. What year model is your 110 as there are wiring kits available from Land Rover for wiring a 13 pin and also a 12s but their part numbers differ depending what model and year. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

The 12N socket is plug and play and is what you describe.
The 12S wiring is not fitted as standard but is what you need to do what you want. It is reasonably involved to add the 12S wiring and involves wiring back to the battery box and taking an "ignition on" signal from inside the dash. If you had both 12N and 12S, you could very easily fit a fully-wired 13 pin socket. With just the 12N, you could easily fit a partially wired 13 pin socket which would be fine for towing a trailer, but not for what you want. |

thanks me being a clueless git I hope I can plug and play, just need to know the best place to get the kit... obviously OEM would be great but with the LR price tag there must be a good alternative. Steve |

I've brought the 13 pin kit now,so my question is is it easy to fit? I already have the 7 pin system fitted on an year 11 plate.
