This weekend I've mostly been re-trimming, sound deadening and insulating the roof.
Mouldly, dirty headliner Click image to enlarge Cut re-trim fabric to size
Fold in half and spray on contact adhesive
Push and mould to contours
Insulate Light backing before re-fitting to save fuses Fold over edges and glue and tape up
Looking good so far, two more to go
Silent Coat the roof (cheap Dynamat)
Managed to pick a Military "NATO TUM" 110 HazMat kit
The inside of the kit was then cut and used over the top of the sound deadening material
Start to refit the trim
Very happy |

Quick 30mins addition. Thanks to Myers for the extra light I now have a light in the middle of the 110 (why LR have never put one there is a mystery)
No light
Masked up and carefully cut a hole, fished the wires that I'd left there for this job
Installed to a Factory finish

Tonight's little job was to add some soundproofing to the bonnet.
Quickly measured the sound in the cab at idle. 63.3db was about the average
Then got to work on the kitchen table
First step was Silent Coat (cheap Dynamat) to kill the vibrations and add a bit of mass
Then Silent Coat Hoodliner
Tape it all up nice and neat
Put it back on the car and measure in exactly the same way
Dropped 3.5db at idle, I'll know better tomorrow when I drive it if it feels quieter |

You could also stick 1cm thick felt to the underside of your bonnet,I used cable tie's as well for a bit more security.

Next major project is the transmission tunnel as I reckon that's where most of the noise comes from.

Well, drove it today and it's made a difference, not massive but 1 step closer to being nicer on long runs.
I think the transmission tunnel will make the biggest difference. |

I put sound deadening and closed cell foam across the whole floor bulkhead and transmission tunnel and then put the original trims and mats etc back (these were a bit tight) and it made quite a big difference. You've also given me another job
