Anyone know which bits will transfer from the older steel frame/ali skin to the newer all steel doors?

Will the winders, electric windows, handles, seals, glass, door card, etc. fit or are they different?

Door cards are different between pre 2004 and post 2004...

The internal plate/window carrier is different...

Every thing else is the same.

If it was me I would go for a late set of Td5 or Puma doors (which have a light galvanised coat as standard) - but get a complete set.

The problem with the galvanised frame version still has the issue of dis-similar metals when using the standard Aluminium skin.

Ian, thanks for the info, very useful.

I did see on the SP site that they use galvanised steel skins on their doors for this very reason (these are the door that are made to pre 2005 design)

Thanks for that info Ian, clears up the guesswork without having to take apart anyones puma door for comparison Laughing

I doubt these come along for sale that often, the pair in the link posted eariler will probably go for silly money and I'd rather find some from a reputable salvage company than a private trader who cant verify their source. Mark S

I've decided to go for the Puma doors but I haven't come across anywhere that can supply them other than Land Rover themselves.

As per my post in the for sale/wanted section, if anyone has puma does for sale please get in touch. I won't be answering unless you are an established forum member, recently registered scumbags need not apply Smile Mark S

By the less than overwhelming response I've got about doors, both on here and in calling specialist 4x4 or defender breakers, I'm considering replacing the doors with rocking horse poo or some hens teeth..... Big Cry Mark S

I used one of the SP doors on my last 110, for the price it was good value , steel frame tho so it would need to be waxoiled etc.
The skin on the SP door is thicker than the standard land rover door, the fit was quite good too and overall it shuts with a nice solid clunk.

The real upside to the LR round top doors is the drainage at the bottom of the door frame is much improved, so no water traps and you can fit the newer tyre bottom door seal.

One small ray of sun on the horizon, I emails SP again to get more details and got this response:

Quote:
hi david, the new load of doors we will be doing will also have a galv frame as well as well as the skin so they are actually going to work out a bit dearer than the ones with just the steel frame, we expect them to be about £50 each dearer as we have also sourced the manufacturer who made the door frames for land rover themselves so they will be basically genuine land rover frames that will be used, which is another factor why the new batch will end up a bit more expensive but the product will be even better being fully galvanised and with gen land rover frames
kind regards
william

Thanks Tiger, got in touch with them today so a pair of white doors will be on their way to my local bodyshop tomorrow for painting in 644 Oslo Blue Smile

Right, additional shopping list consists of full set of new seals (including the new design for the lower join with the sill), X-trouser latches, central locking actuators (they've started to play up), and when I'm transferring over my eclectic windows I think I'll need to repair the wiring as theres definitely a dodgy connection on the drivers door window wiring.

I take it that it's not too difficult to take apart the existing handles/locks and fit them to a new door? I'd like to keep the same locks if I can. Mark S

Instead of replacing the window loom for another Land Rover one with the brittle wire syndrome, why not see about upgrading the wires for the windows and central locking for cabling that will withstand the constant flexing that the original cabling falls foul of. I'm sure that the wiring type has been discussed on here before on a few threads to do with central locking problems or get in touch with Vehicle Wiring Products and I'm sure they'll sort you out.

And I had to trawl other websites to pick other bits & bobs that I will be replacing when I do the door swap, namely the door seals (inc the new design lower seals), central locking actuators, with X-trouser catches planned too.

You just take a door for granted until it stops working, drivers door is refusing to open now, probably in protest at the impending replacement..... Big Cry Mark S

I'd be interested Mark, in knowing what the total cost of going this route will be...my driver's door is in a bad way as well at the moment, and this is something I should definitely consider. 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top
