Can't comment on Vodaphone, but I'm increasingly disappointed with O2 coverage, for call signal strength but also especially for 3g, which is very patchy indeed.
Other half has EE on his iPhone 5 and has much much better signal strength coverage and 3g than my iPhone 3 on O2. I was wondering at first if his iPhone 5 just has a much better receiver than my 3 year old iPhone 3GS but sometimes I get diddly squat and he has full strength so feel sure now it is not just the phone making the difference. With the iPad we usually get a '3' sim card for when we are away from home to use internet / iplayer etc and have found that '3' has wayyyy better 3g coverage than O2. This is our experience for North of England and Scottish Borders, dunno about further South as don't venture there very often ![]() As I say, no idea about Vodaphone, but I'm deffo thinking about changing from O2 to EE before long. I have been on o2 for years without issue. like other have said there are a few dead spots, but nothing serious.
I guess it just depends on whether the particular networks dead spots are in an area you frequent regularly? Suppose you could "road test" a network with a 1 month sim only package for a tenner in an old handset - may be cheaper than getting locked into a 18 or 24 month contract only to find the coverage at home/work is rubbish. |

Living out in the sticks is a pain for phone coverage for me! I would have to travel 15-20 miles to get 3G
The reason I stay with Vodafone is because of there sure signal box which gives you full 3G at home via your broadband. They are the only phone company that do these so don't have the option to change but you do have to do some mean haggling at contract renewal time to get a good price! 1997 Ex-MOD 110, Pop Top Camper, build thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72352.html 2014 Discovery 4 SE Tech Instagram @the110camper |

I was with Vodafone for years but I had a problem with them when they withdrew the sat nav service I subscribed to without advising me and then continued to charge me for the privilege. When I discovered this and queried it with them I had about three months of lies and changing stories from them. Really disappointed with their arrogance. When I was a business customer I was treated so differently. I referred them to the telecoms ombudsman but of course these guys are funded by the telecoms companies so although they upheld my complaint they were powerless/reluctant to investigate whether Vodafone had cheated any other customers and could not issue a fine against Vodafone for their discraceful treatment of customers. Needless to say I cancelled my contract, refused the compensation and outcome decided by the ombudsman and am in the process of issing a summons against Vodafone for all the wasted time I have spent on this and the charged they levied for a service that they had withdrawn without notice. Such fun ! Oh, am now with O2 - no problems so far (but that will depend on how they react when I have an issue of course).

We have Vodafone & O2 (and O2 with GiffGaff which is really good value), and I generally find O2 coverage better than Vodafone.
However, it seems that O2 and Vodafone are about to set-up cell-site sharing, so it should be the best of both worlds for coverage. So, network coverage wont be a deciding factor between them, or so I believe. cheers simon |
