Help-no constant power (electrical)
G'day Guys,

I was fitting my heat unit and checking the output power connections from the grey ISO plug (with multimeter) this morning and unfortunately shorted across the negative and the constant power coming from the ISO plug. I didn't think anything at the time and drove away and then realised when I got back in my speedo tripmeter had reset and I had no interior lights.

Long story short got home and I have checked all of the fuses and can't find a blown 1 anywhere. I have no interior lights, tripmeter resets when vehicle turned off, no clock power. I haven't got the little red flashing alarm light on the dash either, locked or unlocked.

Central locking works and also sounds the horn still if doors open.

Edit: Just realised the tacho sits at about 700 when swithced off and also the EGR isn't doing its cleaning cycle all was good prior to this. Big Cry what have I done.

Edit: I just moved the car in the driveway and the anti stall is also not working, this looks like it has affected the ECU somehow somehow, surely not, god I hope not.......

Any suggestions.

Mick

Well, call me stupid, call me a d---head call me everything.......don't worry I have. I reckon its worse when you stuff something up yourself than if someone else does it, I'm flailing myself now, oooooh hang on.....

You know how I said I checked every bloody fuse, fusible link, relays the lot I was stumped. So I packed the whole lot up, tools away, dash back together thinking it would be a trip to the dealer 3 hours away, totally p---ed off.

Went for a 10km run to cool off, came home thought to myself, get a ground and check all of the fuse holders to make sure they are getting power. Started under the drivers seat, and checked the fuses and links once again, all good. Move on to the secondary fuses, get to fuse FL29 (Diagnostic socket, clock, entertainment system) pull the 10 amp fuse, hold it in front of the work light and what do ya know the f----n thing is blown Embarassed Rolling Eyes Evil or Very Mad how did I miss this before, 49 yr old eyes I reckon.

Well replace it with a spare and all is well, everything is working.

How the bloody hell can that fuse affect the EGR, Anti Stall, Trip meter.

Well Im a happy camper now I'll be able to go back and put the head unit in tomorrow.

I'm going to get dinner and a cider now Thumbs Up

Mick

I think you'll find that this fuse also powers most if not all of the Ipac (instrument panel ECU).

Aha........

I tried to figure the electrical diagram from the manuals downloaded from DG Thumbs Up and tried to follow that, but that confused me as well.

I shall no in future though.

I'm going to buy extra spare fuses and also long nose pliers to leave in the car, that white plastic tool to remove the blade fuses is hopeless. Long nose worked well though Thumbs Up

Thumbs Up
How much would the dealer have charged you to sort that out? Well worth the 10km run!
Reminds me of the time when a side door on the 110 station wagon would not open from the inside. I had the tool box out ready to try and sort it out, when my daughter, who has Down Syndrome, pointed out to me that the child lock catch had inadvertedly been engaged.
Often thought of getting her a job at a maindealers. Rolling with laughter 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Rolling with laughter not wrong Spud. Enough to calm down and regroup.....

Spud, that's priceless mate, my wife and I just had a laugh about you and the lock. Your daughter is a gem, luckily she was on the ball.

That kiddie lock is a pain, I flicked mine on, on the rear door in the 90 and hopped in the back and closed it, just to see if it worked, duh, as you do Rolling Eyes the wife was at work so I had to climb over the front seats....what was I thinking.....
