Love it.
I will try the double-declutch tomorrow. It's almost like a quick wake up kick and then it performs beautifully. |

I looked for a solution years ago and came across Evo oil sold on the Difflock website...might be worth looking into...
http://forum.difflock.com/viewtopic.php?p=...db8e58cc00 A bit old, but the oil is still sold. Not tried it, but my gearbox is a bit rough on the 2nd/3rd change too, so need to see if I can improve things. Cheers Simon |

is this problem on the Puma or the R380 gearbox. I had this problem on my 300tdi which was cured by a gearbox oil change and slowing the change a tad.
thankfully my Puma box is very smooth. BM52 |

Give the gear stick a bif of a left-right waggle just as it goes into 3rd gear. If you push 'straight' into 3rd it'll crunch, but if you shimmy it in you might be ok. No idea why, but it's worked for me on several different vehicles.

Having watched one of my Chrismas DVDs last night (Mark Evans - a 4x4 is born), which included a wander round Ashcroft Transmissions, and a good look at a couple of gearboxes which had been sectioned so that you could see what was going on inside, at least I now know exactly which bits it is which crunch!

he he, I remember my grandad telling me about double de clutching when he drove an AEC double decker bus in the 1960's. Dont you just love the way LR have evolved! ![]() Volvo V70 |

mine was the same until I changed the gearbox oil for Castrol SMXS (now rebranded Syntrans multivehicle 75-90 - same stuff though). I also learned - through forum advice - to change gear slowly and deliberately

Even modern cars will benefit from double declutching to smooth the gear changes. I'm sad enough to do it on the daily driver - it has got to last a few more years!
![]() On a Series LR, you don't even need to use the clutch if you get the revs right ![]() |

I had very similar issues 2 winters ago, replaced gear oil with EVO from Difflock, never had the problem since
