Reversing light failed
Before i take it back to the dealer does anyone know of this problem.

I have LED reversing light which became very dim. swapped it out for the original bulb and no light, tried another bulb as well just in case.

i think it could be the earth but i don't know where it is earthed?

Thanks BM52

I too have the same issue. I find that only my current LED bulb will work but not the filament type bulbs. Only way to find the earth is to trace it by wiring diagram. ____\We|Will|Win/___

i think you will find the earth is made by the reverse light switch in the gearbox. On some cars these are adjustable others are replace only. 2005 Td5 90 XS

Your welcome. To be honest with you if you can't find out what it is easily and it's under warranty just get them (LR) to sort it. Chances are you'll get a new free switch too. When mine stopped working last year I had to go for the hand brake re-call and asked them too look at this also and they never charged me a penny and it wasn't even under warranty Exclamation ____\We|Will|Win/___

Well this all changed this morning... Rolling Eyes Whilst giving all my light a clean up and check I though for the hell of it I'll try the regular 21w filament type reverse light bulb when I had my ladder off. And it bloomin' works now! Banging Head Last year I couldn't get it to work AT ALL then got the dealer to sort it and I asked them to fit an LED and that worked but I didn't like it's output very much and not bright enough! Then I tried a regular bulb and nothing worked except the LED how ever much I checked and tried and then gave up. Tried the normal bulb today and it works. What the ...........

(And it wasn't a duff bulb either I tried two) ____\We|Will|Win/___

Same as me then! What I did was clean the plug and socket right up with some tissue paper. And then once all clean some WD-40 but only on the plug and socket not the actual bulb holder (didn't think it would be too good an idea and it was completely dry anyway)

Might be worth giving it a go? ____\We|Will|Win/___

I had a similar episode with mine - got strange high resistance readings on the meter and couldn't get the filament bulb to light......suddently after a bit of use engaging reverse the switch seemed to start working properly......I also wiggled the connections on the switch on the side of the geabox.....anyway its been working a treat ever since.

Tried replacement bulb, substituted the fog light in case here was something wierd with the housing. Open circuit voltage was 8V???

Somewhat frustrating for me as a chartered electrical engineer. Probably just poor/dirty connections in my case

If its a similar set up to the td5 wiring the switch on top of the gearbox is fed a positive supply down the bulkhead/engine loom plug and back up the same plug into the dash, then down the chassis loom plug to the reversing light.
The earth for all the lights at the back is supplied down the chassis loom from a couple of wires earthed on the gearbox housing.
I would check the two plugs at the bulkhead as these carry the positive and are more likely to green over (corrode)
The earth is worth a check as well of course!

DB950 - Can you advise the location of the 2 plugs at the bulkhead? thanks BM52

Sorry all my advice is for a td5 so it's all hoping they are similar.
The plugs are located in the engine bay below the header tank on clips attached to the bulkhead.
The engine loom plug is grey and the chassis loom plug is orange.
Again sorry if this is untrue for a puma.
The positive supply and return wires to the switch are thickish green ones.
