I've manage to get in with some nifty work with a strong piece of wire
![]() Only issue is now that I've got it open I can't find what the problem is. The door now opens and shuts fine from inside and out but I haven't adjusted anything!! Very confused. Ideas? Will Defender 90 XS TD5 (03 Reg) |

Take the door card off and have a look. There is no need to "rip it off", just use a butter knife or whatever to gently lever it.

I think the problem Big Mike was that the door was shut - this would make getting the door card off a little difficult. Once the door is open, as it now is, he was able to remove the door card in the accepted manner.

Even though after opening the door it resumed normal working I made one change
What I've done is adjusted how far the push button moves the lever which opens the lock by decreasing the amount of thread below the nut the control rod goes through. I will check the hinges for play tomorrow Nick thanks for the advice. I did previously have the problem that the passenger wouldn't open from the outside and did the same adjustment as above. At the moment i'm driving round with no door card so if it does get stuck again i hope to find the problem before opening and fixing. The only thing that I can think of that may be the problem is that some part of the lock may not be secured so is flexing on it's mountings. Therefore the rods don't move the piece they are attached to enough to open the lock. Lastly, does anyone know where I can get some replacement retaining clips? The ones that hold the trim piece onto the door, some were snapped off on removal. Will Defender 90 XS TD5 (03 Reg) |

New development.
It hasn't been fixed with the adjustment. The door came open today whilst driving and i had to bungee cord it shut as you do. It then got stuck half shut if that makes sense. So I couldn't open it with either outside push button or inside handle. After a lot of fiddling with the lock button which moves when you use the central locking as well as the lever which the outside button pushes up i got it open. Slammed the door and it was fine on the way home. So what do you think, actuator?? Mechanism moving on it's housing? Door dropped? I have no idea where to start. Will Defender 90 XS TD5 (03 Reg) |

have you taken the door card of the other front door and compared how the linkage is set up, could be a bent rod or a disconnected link.
also worth checking that the outside door button is not sticking part way depressed. suggest liberal lubricating of all linkages, door button, lock barrel and catch. BM52 |
