I suppose that a hole might have corroded through the block but it is unlikely, and there are many things which could be leaking externally.

I agree, they often can seem like it’s coming from somewhere else as well. ____\We|Will|Win/___

The mechanic that's looked at it thinks that it's rusted through. Seems very strange to me. I've not heard of this happening today block that's 16yrs old?? I can't get a very good picture as it's under the exhaust manifold. I need to remove the turbo and the manifesto see it. I've ordered a cheap flexible camera to see if I can get a better idea before I start taking bits off. So I can put better photos up then. I wonder if I can put a stitch bolt in to plug the hole. But if it has rusted then it could be weak in the whole area.

It would be nice if I could find someone local that would confirm it for me. I'm going to have to remove the bits in the way. And I'm going to have to sort some transport for a while.

(The line in the red circle is coolant leak)

I got a camera down there. You can see the hole with the stream of water coming out ( coolant is all gone so have filled it with water to see the leak).

I'm thinking it's rusted. Do you think it could be 'plugged'?

May just be the way I’m seeing it but in the first two photos, the hole looks to be almost perfectly round / machined and clean, which would not suggest it’s been caused by rust?

That's a good point. I'm not sure what would cause this. The engine is running absolutely fine.

I would be tempted to try some block sealant in it for now and see if it seals it until you have time to carry out a proper repair.

Do puma engines have a block drain tap like the Tdis ?

Ok. Thanks for the help. I was thinking that I could clean the hole up and tap it and put a bolt in (smothered in JB weld) that should block it. But I'm more concerned about why it's happened.....

How easy is the turbo to remove as it's in the way. I would rather not take off the exhaust manifold for obvious reasons. I may just be able to reach with the turbo out of the way?

Possibly a latent defect - as ling as it can survive the warranty period, its fine.

I would stick some milliput. It adheres very well even to moist surfaces. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
