Thanks for your advice and help to date. Yes you are a good distance! The Nanocom appears to program the Lucas10 (older fob) and ALM (presumably late 2014 and 2015 with chrome strip) fobs. How easy is it? I have a td5 and 2 Pumas and all I am thinking is at some point another fob is likely to fail …

This is so amazingly simple albeit you have given the navigation. Are you a technician? I am so nearly tempted to go out and buy the Nanacom, just need to do some research … Thank you

It also supports the TD5 ( inc fob programming) but you need to purchase a separate license for the Nanocom to support Puma and TD5 vehicle’s.

Again thank you for the input, your knowledge is quite simply overwhelming. Do you know how much the TD5 license is and when bought is for lifetime on the device. Cheers.

Sadly it won’t work, what advice does anyone have. The ECU has CH on it. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge

A top outfit which I can’t recommend enough in Stoke on Trent.

(maybe good to know for a future DIY repair - obviously it is indeed the Lear fob, which I didn‘t recognise at first glance).

That’s very odd, the ALM units with a serial number beginning CH were the ones with the Lucas fob and integrated radio components, I.e the same fob as the older green 10AS alarm unit. The later ALM units with the serial numbers beginning with DH were the ones with the Lear fob and external radio components. They are very different. So I’m not sure how you have a Lear fob yet a ALM CH serial number unit.

The repaired fob worked and de immobilised the engine and it started immediately. I then used the "on loan" Nanacom to programme the new LEAR key fob, went though all the steps and there was beep from the horn at the end. Now the Defender will not de immobilise of either key fob, does anyone know why this has happened. I will take the repaired key fob back to be checked to be double sure!! Here are pics of the new fob with the broken fob by the side and then a pic of the repaired fob with 3 new buttons with some soldering ... Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge

Hard to see if they replaced or resoldered any other parts. Can't help with the programming issue My unqualified understanding was that you have to (re)program _all_ keys, which would explain why the first one doesn't work but not why the new one also doesn't work despite the ALM's confimation beep.

Therefore what has happened is your old repaired fob has now been deleted and your old and new fobs have failed to be added by the Nanocom. I would message blackbox solutions (Nanocom) and ask them what the issue may be. Having said that, I’m still perplexed that you say your ALM unit is the CH version yet you have the Lear fobs. As I said before the Lear fobs work wth the latter ALM DH version which is completely different to the CH version that works with lucas fobs. Given you are stuck at present with no fobs disarming the immobiliser it’s worth seeing if you can use the Lucas fob programming option to see if that works. A very long shot that makes no sense but worth a punt.
